Hi guys

My PC has just ground to a halt. It's a brand new self-built desktop which was all wonderful and lightening fast until a few days ago and now it's barely usable.

Steam works okay but I tried to launch Elite Dangerous yesterday. Nothing happens when I click the icon but if I click it a second time it says "You can only have one instance of Elite Dangerous running at once". Elite is not listed on the task manager as a running programme.

Also, the machine now does not want to run Chrome and often fails to shut down, needing a hard reset which then boots it into recovery mode. As far as Windows is concerned everything is working properly. Tried to restore to a previous point but this made the PC hang and refuse to shut down forcing a hard reset. No viruses detected by McAfee.

Any advice on what I should do? Should I wipe the PC and re-install Windows 7? Should I try upgrading to Windows 8?

Any help much appreciated.

Thanks,

GHP
