Currently, I have a AMD FX4300 and a MSI GTX 660. My motherboard is Asus M5A78L-M LX Plus. Should I get an FX 8350 or get a new graphics card.

If I get a new GPU, will it be bottle necked by my CPU? Also, is my motherboard compatible with the 8350?

I'd get a new CPU first because your current one will bottleneck a high end card and because it'd be cheaper to buy an 8350 than buying a better card.

This is a tough one because I think you should upgrade the CPU and motherboard at the same.

If you get a new GPU it's possible for a bottleneck, I'd go with a 8350, not sure about MOBO compatibility, you should upgrade both at the same time anyway.

No the motherboard is not compatible with the 8350 Because the motherboard does not support over a 100 watt tdp. You can use a 8370e because of the lower tdp of 95 watts.I would get a better graphics card.

No the motherboard is compatible with the 8370e because the mother board does not support a 125watt tdp. and the 8370e has a 95watt tdp. I would get a better graphics card.

Whats the 8370e? Online it says the TDP is 125.

Sorry for the double post but do y'all have a replacement motherboard option? It would be great to get one under $100. I don't need any of that "fancy" stuff lol

What kind of games do you like to play?

Upgrading to an 8350 is not much of an upgrade to be honest.  You're still going to be stuck with the same single core performance if you went with an FX8, which is the most important for gaming.  You are also going to be held back by that motherboard if you go with a CPU more powerful than the FX4, so you are looking at a mobo upgrade anyways.  Even if you did go with an 8370E, it still has the same crappy single core performance that will hold back higher end GPUs.  The 660 is still powerful enough to get another 6-12 months out of.

I think you are better off upgrading to a proper CPU such as an i5 and upgrading GPU later.  There are two Microcenter locations in Atlanta,Georgia, in Duluth and Marietta.  It would be criminal to not take advantage of their in-store i5/Z97 motherboard bundles.  You can pick up an i5 + Z97 mobo for around $250 in store, and that is unbeatable in terms of price and performance.

a decent AM3+ 970 Chipset board should be fine.

the fx 8370e is amd new vishera refresh. Its an energy saving 8 core. (its an 8350 with lower tdp and lower clock speeds)

If you're looking for an AM3+ motherboard with class and a nice warranty, you should go with the MSI 970 Gaming. I don't know if Newegg still has it on sale, but it was like $70 on Black Friday. The MSI BIOS is nice to use and gives a bit more flexibility in overclocking options for both your CPU and GPU. It seems to me that the motherboard would cover you later on if you went SLI or Crossfire, but I've only experimented with Crossfire since I didn't have two green team GPUs when I was playing around. Anyways, it worth noting that the motherboard doesn't support the FX 9000 CPUs, but I doubt you'd want to grab one if you had that much to spend.

It's too bad AMD doesn't have a newer competitive quad core.
