Upgrading Mobo USB boot

So Im upgrading my motherboard and CPU, I will obviously need to resintall windows 8.1, Ive got a usb that is bootable from, if I do this then booting from my hard disk again lose all of my pictures and music? im not worried about programs.

Unless you format your hard drive, i dont see why you should lose anything on it?

I think you would lose it maybe, have you got a spare PC you could recover stuff from your hard drive from? Or use Dropbox/Google Drive.

You can also do partial reinstall where only windows and software are reinstalled. That leaves your personal files untouched and renames user folder to windows.old.
