When getting my new gaming PC, would this really help me get more FPS?  If so, by how much?

My specs:

nVidia GeForce GTX970 4GB

Intel Core i5 4690K 3.9GHz turbo quad core

8GB RAM

Windows 8.1

No it won't, it was ment more so for windows 7. Since your on 8.1 it won't do anything to help you.

Not really, it will just help speed up Windows.

No it won't, it was ment more so for windows 7. Since your on 8.1 it won't do anything to help you.

core unparking is useless because cores unpark themselves when they are needed.

Either there was an issue with windows back then (which has definitely been patched by now) or all those people are under the placebo effect. Or both, you never know.

False. Core unparking can help an I7 A LOT in Windows 7.

 

In Windows 8? It does nothing.

 

It will not help an I5 or an I3. Basically MS screwed up core parking in 7 and if you have an I7 and Windows 7? Unpark cores.

 

On a fresh install on my 4770k 3 threads were parked in games like Planetside 2, BF4 and this just randomly happened with no changes to power settings. In addition they were LOWER threads which could cause hitching/stuttering.

 

It may also help a FX chip. Very simple to see. Play game. Ctrl Alt del. Look at core usage in task manager and if you see cores/threads asleep? Your computer in gimped in that game and Windows did it.

CPU:24/7-4770k @ 4.5ghz/4.0 cache @ 1.22V override, 1.776 VCCIN. MB: Z87-G41 PC Mate. Cooling: Hyper 212 evo push/pull. Ram: Gskill Ares 1600 CL9 @ 2133 1.56v 10-12-10-31-T1 150 TRFC. Case: HAF 912 stock fans (no LED crap). HD: Seagate Barracuda 1 TB. Display: Dell S2340M IPS. GPU: Sapphire Tri-x R9 290. PSU:CX600M OS: Win 7 64 bit/Mac OS X Mavericks, dual boot Hackintosh.
