FX 8320 + Hyper 212 Evo

Go to solution Solved by i_build_nanosuits,

I wasn't planning on an OC with this setup the stock clock is PERFECTLY fine with me until I can get a better CPU cooler :)

i owned a similar kit to this and the hyper 212 can dissipate about 1.4v on these with okay temps...you have quite a bit of overclocking headroom and at stock your temps will be very good...the only problem with the FX chips is that they remains slow with abysmal single-threaded performance even when highly overclocked.

I am currently planning on buying an AMD FX 8320 cpu. I have a Coolermaster Hyper 212 Evo with the one stock fan as my cpu cooler and a AsRock Fatal1ty 990FX Killer series mobo in a NZXT H440 case with upgraded fans. I was wondering if anyone knew how the temps would be with this setup. I am currently running an AMD Phenom II X4 955 black edition overclocked to 3.7 GHz form 3.2 GHz and my idle temps are around 40c. I'll also add (idk if this makes a difference) that I'm going to also be adding an R9 290 and I have a 750w psu.

Idle temps aren't really important. I can tell you for sure that the FX chips are hotter than the surface of the sun. They also draw immense amounts of energy. With stock speeds you won't have any temperature issues but I do not recommend heavily overclocking it without a beefier cooler. This is one of the few chips I really recommend using an AIO CPU cooler or monster Noctua tower heatsinks.

Immense amounts of energy? my 6100 only pulls 95 watts. That's under a full, unrealistic load.

what you are refering to is the TDP which has nothing to do with how many watts your CPU consumes...i can tell you it's MUCH more than that.

Do you mean to buy a i5-4440 because that is something that is not going to happen seeing that I already have a mobo and would much rather stick with AMD

if you where to build from scratch but since you already have the motherboards and the FX-8320 is cheap it makes sense...what GPU are you using?

Really, well then i'll just go fire up P95 and AI suite.

156watts was the peak reading for your CPU at the socket...and this is at stock settings, overclocking the CPU will push it above 200W

haha that my friend is pure bullshit, i have intel extreme utility showing my cpu uses 1 watt at the moment and i know it's not true..

If you believe that such a CPU (or any other CPU as well BTW) can use as low as 56 watts under full load you are nuts.

6100 not 8xxx. Compare it to the Intel equivalent and see how your power adds up.

I go by what my instruments tell me. I'd use a kill-a-watt if I had one just to prove you wrong.

ok great think what you want i'm not here to argue you or to teach you...im glad if you think your CPU is 56watts underload...what i'm telling you is that even an haswell celeron will consume somewhat more than that...and even on idle your CPU consumes more than 56watts.
