BIOS Question

I'm hoping to buy a ASUS B85m-G to OC what is soon to be mine, Pentium G3258.

 

and im wondering if there is a way to check which BIOS version the board'll come with.

 

I've established that it needs BIOS version 2001 to be compatible.

So if the board doesn't come with the 'right' BIOS then what can i do?

Being bit impatient, are we now?

 

Asus boards have BIOS flashback utility which allows you to flash BIOS without working CPU. It seems like this board doesn't have that feature. So you have to either use working CPU or take it to repair shop for update.

Asus boards have BIOS flashback utility which allows you to flash BIOS without working CPU. It seems like this board doesn't have that feature. So you have to either use working CPU or take it to repair shop for update.

It has in the special features list "ASUS EZ Flash Utility" is that the same thing?

I don't think so. Reading the manuals and FAQs say that Flashback needs onboard button. EZ Flash is the name of either windows software or BIOS utility.

If you buy it new, there is a high chance it has the latest BIOS. I wouldn't worry until it arrived and doesn't work with the CPU.

 

That depends how long it has been sitting in retailers warehouse. If its almost straight from factory, its with new BIOS. But it can as well be one from original shipment. You can always ask about that and even request latest board that has arrived to improve chances.

I might just use this Asrock board

It has the CPU on the support list for all BIOS updates and can OC the G3258 which is the CPU i'm getting.

Someone on Pcpartpicker says they OC'ed a 4690k on it.

Should i go for the ASUS or the ASrock listed above?

Actually http://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B00D1E9FKI/?tag=pcp0f-21 says they are getting a new shipment on the 1st of December
