Is there a big difference betwen AMD R9 280 and 280x ?

gods_hammer

Price difference in my region is about 82$. Is 280x worth 82$ more than 280 ?? Is 280x much more powerfull than 280 ? Keeping the budget as low as it can.

How much is the 285? If it costs almost as much as the 280x, go for the 280.

No if you overclock it.

280=7950

280x=7970

Not that big of a difference, if you OC the 280 it could reach a stock reference 280x, or at least before you could OC the 7950 to reach the clocks of a stock 7970.

No, the 280X is an slightly better binned chip but not worth $82. Get the 280

The 280x have 256 more cores compare to the 280 but yeah not quite worth it for $82 extra.

Shader difference can be made redundant by overclocking only by a small amount.

Price difference worthyness is subjective.

Maximums - Asus Z97-K /w i5 4690 Bclk @106.9Mhz * x39 = 4.17Ghz, 8GB of 2600Mhz DDR3,.. Gigabyte GTX970 G1-Gaming @ 1550Mhz

Really strange prices here in Croatia. 285 is more expensive than 280x and 280 is cheaper than 270x, lol.

To give you an idea, stock 280 gets 1500 points in unigine valley, overclocked it gets 1850 (a 23% overclock, mind you) and the 280x stock gets 1900-2000.

The 280 is a physically cut-down Tahiti chip with fewer cores and texture units, whereas 280X is complete. It's not just a clock speed or binning difference.

Depends on how far you can overclock, keep in mind you can overclock the 280x too. I have the 7950 (basically a 280) and I can almost max every game at 1080p at 50-60fps. Sometimes I have to turn things like AA but it is quite a capable card, and seeing that it's cheaper than a 270x it's also an awesome value.

This. (My Older Gigabyte 7950 was able to maintain a nice Overclock of 1175/1450 from stock 1000/1250)

You may not be able to OC that far (20-25%+) but a lot of users seem to be getting quite a bit over 15% better performance on average from overclocking.

Its true, AA may need to be disabled to maintain 50-60fps in some titles for Ultra spec graphics to remain enabled, but for the price, it's great value.

Yep it is good value. But also im not into overclocking thing, idk I really don't have a clue about OC and I don't wanna blow my 700$ PC :/

It will still be epic without an OC.

Ingame option tweaking like if Shadows have a Medium/High/Ultra, use High instead of Ultra giving a few FPS back. (Antialiasing giving back the most performance when turning it down)

Little things like this can make it a perfect card for those chasing a good mix of fluidity and highly detailed graphics.
