Believe me I see what you're trying to say, sorry about that (didn't check where the OP lives) but in this situation I don't see any money "wasted". And with a 280x being cheaper, a 280x uses WAY more power than a 760. Gotta think power costs. :)

But with the 960 right around the corner, we need to know if either of these options is even worth buying.

if we talk for 770 i see this card in shop MSI N770 TF 2GD5/OC cost almost like 760...

If your friend has a weaker CPU (e.g., Pentium or i3) he should probably go Nvidia. If he has an i5 or better than R9 280 makes way more sense than GTX 760, as it gives better framerates in most games and has 3GB VRAM vs the 760's 2GB and is cheaper. But it might make sense to wait for the 960 to release, as it's rumored to have 4GB VRAM and is supposed to be sold at the $250 price point. I can't imagine the thing would be any worse than a GTX 770, though that's pure speculation.

tbh, the 760 is not that amazing of a card for the price. I went from a 7950 to an ACX 760 SC after I killed my 7950, and the 7950 was quite a bit better, even though the 760 ran 1241Mhz stock settings @ full load, and overclocked well beyond that. I only bought the 760 at the time because AMD cards were all sold out or overpriced from coin mining, and I honestly feel the 760 was the most overpriced GPU I have ever bought, and I bought an 8800GTX way back in the day.

I hate AMD just because of power usage, and really bad drivers !

yeah, I hated my 7950 for breaking because the 760 used quite a bit more power, and nvidia released a few bad drivers while I was using the 760... couldn't agree more.
