Should i put an sshd in my laptop?

officiallyasimulator

Hey guys, as the title says, i am in desperate need of a new hard drive in my laptop since 750gb is just not enough. i am looking around and pretty much the only 2.5 inch hard drives are 1tb sshds by seagate, or a 2tb wd green but that is $200 compared to the 125 of the sshd.

so should i get the sshd and put it in my laptop.

Well, to be honest, 1 Tb is not much of an improvement over 750 Gb...

Any unknown button should be pressed even number of times.

Speed: SSD>SSHD>HDD

Price: HDD>SSHD>SSD

An SSHD is not a bad solution, especially if you need the storage.

You won't. It's an awkward size that nobody makes anymore. You're better off to go with a WD Black2 drive. A ssd and hdd in a single form factor. Perfect for your needs. You get decent speed and the space of a hdd. This isn't a hybrid like the sshd but better.

Hi there officiallyasimulator,

You could consider the suggestion of @Dimwitted. You can find more on the WD Black Dual drive here – http://goo.gl/VyV2k1. Basically it combines 120GB SSD and 1TB HDD in one chassis. You can use the SSD to store there your OS and the programs/games you're using the most to speed up loading times. In the meantime you could have all your photos, videos and other files secured on the HDD. Unlike SSHD, with the dual drive you'll have the complete control - if you want you can put all files on the HDD, or save some of them on the SSD and other on the HDD.

Hope this helps,

Titania WD

The wd Black2 is more expensive and has a complicated installation procedure, requiring you to fit the fast stuff onto the first 120 GB of that drive. An SSHD is a marginal price premium over a HDD and has no such drawbacks, it can be considered a drop-in replacement. The Black2 is fast from the start, assuming you've optimised the way your data is stored, though, while the SSHD will still have to learn which data is accessed randomly and store that in its puny 8GB cache. Honestly, the SSHD is what I'd go for. But if you want the control you can get the black2. Just remember to install your OS and games on a partition on the first 120GB. You can always grow that partition later and the data will stay where it is; WD includes a utility for that.

I cannot be held responsible for any bad advice given.

I've no idea why the world is afraid of 3D-printed guns when clearly 3D-printed crossbows would be more practical for now.

@ManwithaBeard1990 In this instance you're wrong. There is no "first" 120gb. It's a drive. Period. When you install a Black2 you have two physical drives, a 120gb ssd C: drive and a 1 tb hdd D: drive. They only share a form factor, nothing else. This is why this is not a hybrid but a "dual" drive as labelled by WD. Yes it is more expensive which is why it's not recommended for desktops because it's unnecessary but in this instance it's absolutely perfect. The only caveat for this drive is that you need 9mm of clearance. With the older machines that isn't much of a problem.
