Upgrade help.

Go to solution Solved by GeoffreyPope,

its an fx 6300. Hence the reason for the mobo upgrade.

Get the 970, you will not really notice the bottleneck - though there will be one to some degree. As you are already really limited by your GPU more than anything else the most cost effective upgrade would be the GPU and you can then see for yourself if you are happy with the performance increase and therefore if it is worth you upgrading the motherboard and processor. (changing the motherboard will give no performance gain and most games are more GPU restricted than CPU restricted. If it was a e4400 or something like that the processor upgrade would be more urgent - what are you even doing with a 270x. :D The 6300 can hold its own)

So I'm wanting to upgrade to a GTX 970 and I'm also wanting to upgrade my motherboard to an ASUS gryphon z97 and my cpu to an i5 4690k. However I can only get one at a time. So should I upgrade to a 970 first and upgrade my cpu and mobo later? Or should I upgrade my CPU and mobo and get the gpu later? I know if I get the gpu now, I'll have a pretty significant bottleneck to deal with until I upgrade again.

Wishing leads to ambition and ambition leads to motivation and motivation leads to me building an illegal rocket ship in my backyard.

I would go for gpu first and wait for next gen intel.

or go with intel now and go for amd 300 series gpu

this

but i would do gpu first as it will give you the biggest gains

I know. It is an additional cost to consider when changing the processor, and one that does not in itself improve performance. :)

Good luck with your build!
