How fast is a 6970?

Go to solution Solved by WoodenMarker,

What about this card? http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814161411

I am a fan of HIS in most ways, just becasue of the TekSyn forum everyone seems to like them for OC and cooling all around.

I got my uncle a HIS 7850 and it works wonderfully. I'd say get the cheapest 7870 you can find. If you prefer the HIS version and don't mind paying more, go ahead but I often choose HIS simply because they're the cheapest around.

The Sapphire 7870 has a better cooler than the HIS version though and is at a lower price though.

Why not get the 7850?

It's cheaper, runs cooler, needs less power, and overclocks better.

A 7850/7870 would be better alternatives.

How much faster is a 7850 to a 6970? I found an ASUS DCU 7850 for $190 but I'm not sure, not to good with any AMD cards under 7950 more of an Nvidia person but this is on budget so AMD is the way.

Doubt it, the HD6970 is still a solid card despite what people say about the Dreaded HD6000 series, I reckon a HD7950 would give it a run for its money since there was quite a step up between generations, but the HD7950 is a bit more pricy.

Sadly on a budget since this is going in a secondary system for LAN's and as a secondary gaming PC but will be running full time to unload live streams onto and to so rendering/uploading on while I game. I am stuck between 3 cards right now

The 6970 is still 10-20% faster but with better driver support and once overclocked, the 7850 beats it with a 10-30% boost from overclocking.

Btw, the 7850/7870 are great overclockers.

For gaming gpus $100-300, AMD is wrecking compared to Nvidia. The 7770 and 7850 are arguably the best bang for your buck cards according to Linus. The 7870 and 7950 (Maybe 7790 depending on prices) are right after that.

Anyway, just grab a 7870 and it will definitely beat the 6970. http://pcpartpicker.com/part/sapphire-video-card-100354oc2l

Don't forget to overclock--it makes it a whole different card altogether.

I went from a 6950 to a 7870 XT, the 7870 XT is a great card because it uses the 7900 series chipset and not like the other 7870 the older chipset. so if you get a 7870 get a XT version, its also a beast overclocker.

I can't find a 7870 XT 2Gb for under $250 so that is out of my price range..

The only one newegg sells is a saphire 7870XT 2GB and it's $255 plus tax and shiping so it would come out to about $280+ in my area. (Southern California)
