So I'm a bit of a PC n00b, and I'm building my first one now. I'm planning on putting a gtx 970 in it, and running it thru some sort of moniter.

So I'm already thinking about upgrades. I'm thinking of getting of maybe a 21 inch moniter at first and a 4k display later. This is where my question comes in. I would run them both on my GTX 970, but I've been told that reduces preformance, and I have an old 4780 radeon card I'm using now, and I was thinking about using the 2 inch as a secondary moniter for like Google when I'm stuck gaming and shnozz like that, but I'm not sure if it's possible to run a gtx and radeon card at the same time. Halp pls, lol.

You might loose half a percent of performance using a second monitor. I ran two off of a waaaaaaaaaay worse card and everything was quite peachy for me. No need to throw the 4780 in as it wouldn't work anyways, Nvidia's drivers prevent that.

Theoretically, it is possible, but on a usability basis, it's a complete logistical nightmare to figure out. I've seen it done before, but I don't think the guy ever got it fully compatible.

That said, however, GTX 970 isn't powerful enough to power a 4k display on ultra/high res, at least not with playable frame rates. No single GPU card on the market is, at the present time.

980 can do it decently.

well just having a google monitor will be 1% max performance lost, maybe 2-3 fps, so i would just keep running them both of one card

4k on ultra/high? Playable frame rates? The 980 is a powerful card, but it isn't that much more powerful than a 970. You're still not looking at a solid performer when it comes to 4k. You're still having to sacrifice visual quality (in terms of graphical fidelity in-game) to "gain" the visual quality of 4k.

People talking about 980s and 4K, and I'm just sitting here with a 780 and a 720p monitor lol

I like mine too. I get a lot of weird responses when I say I have a 780 and I'm playing on 768p xD

By decently you mean avg of 30fps with dips below that? 980 imho is not a 4k card, especially when the newer games start coming out and are more demanding then the games you see now. Its best to wait for 4k, 1440p on the other hand should be a good sweet spot.

According to Linus, the new cod game can be run at 4k at about 60 FPS on all highs

I wouldn't call CoD a benchmark game. It's using an ancient engine, that doesn't look all to spectacular anyway. There's not a whole lot of performance difference between high and low.
