I recently bought a pair of earbuds and when the singer makes an "s" sound or "sh" it increases in intensity and it sounds higher pitch than it should be. What is that called? If you're wondering here are the earbuds: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=0TH-001X-00025&cm_re=jbl_j33-_-0TH-001X-00025-_-Product

It is called sibilance. It can be caused by headphones, so if they're new, then it's highly likely that they're the culprit. Some singers may also produce sibilance more readily, like Phil Collins, so if you're listening to some music that's new to you, it could also be a result of that recording

Is there anyway to "fix" this? Referring to the earbuds.

EQ. On a mobile device your options might be further limited.

Do you use any virtualizers or equalizers?

Don't know what those are so probably no.

Try using this to balance out the highs/mids/lows to your liking.

If this is already enabled, try disabling it.

On your computer this should be under your sound drivers or your music player.

And whatever you do, don't do what the guy in that screenshot did. Digitally boosting above 0dB like that is begging for clipping.

Meh. I like how it sounds this way.

I played with it for an hour.

Not always. Good to get in the habit, but it's not always an issue.

Most pop is already near clipping. +6 db there makes it very likely that something will peak sometime during a song, especially if somebody EQs more bass or something.

Your phone should have this setting also.

I'm not sure about iOS, because iOS is shit.
