I personally use the Blue Yeti, however would recommend the AT2020. I got the Yeti because I needed the extra options it provides, being omnidirectional, stereo, as well as cardioid. The AT2020 only has cardioid, making it subjectively better for voice-overs and the like. The SM58 is good, yes, I just personally don't prefer the look lol. Look up reviews and tests of the microphone, as well as the AT2020, if you want to see what type of sound they give, and be sure to note the type of environment the person is testing it in.

I really wish that we'd just make organic hardware already, that grows and adapts to the demands it needs to meet. That way, grannies' computers can be floppy sacks of organicness and the 12 year old Minecrafters will look like the guys that only do bicep curls, and the nerdy programmers will finally have justice, with their body-builder rigs that skipped leg day.

The SM58 is basically the industry-standard for live vocals, it's a great mic and handles lots of abuse. You will need an audio interface and a mic preamp (phantom power) though, and also a proper stand for it. It's a dynamic mic so it has a fairly "short-range" pick up, compared to all the popular cardioid mics which people keep recommending (I have a blue snowball, one of said cardioid mics).

What's the quality like compared to other popular microphones such as the Blue Yeti, Blue Snowball, AT2020, etc. I heard they pick up everything but the SM58 doesn't. So what do you guys think?

Do you have an audio interface already? The SM58 is a live/studio vocal mic that will be on par or better than the yeti and AT2020, but you can't just plug it into a computer

Bump.

bumping is frowned upon, especially seeing as you already have a thread regarding the sm58which has only just fallen of the first page, you could have just asked on their if there are better suited options instead of reviving an older thread.

For, what your doing any of the mics you have mentioned will work more than adequately.  You'll always pick up ambient noise and keyboards, especially if you have a mechanical board.

Grammar and spelling is not indicative of intelligence/knowledge.  Not having the same opinion does not always mean lack of understanding.

I use a PG48 which is almost is the same mic as a SM58 (just more eq'd towards spoken word as opposed to live vocals) and a behringer 302usb interface and it sounds better than most vocals I've heard of a Blue Yeti or Snowball which i own.

The combo cost a little more than a yeti including a mic stand but picks up barely any backround noise and the noise it does pick up is at least 10db lower in volume then a AT2020 or Blue Yeti and you get the bonus of a mixer and A to D converter.
