Best audio editing software?

Go to solution Solved by minibois,

FL Studio works, but it'snot free

I am after software that would allow me to separate instruments from a song, or even separate vocals.

Anyone know of anything good? price is a non-issue.

From a plain old stereo file, like you can get off itunes or youtube downloader, this is not possible. You can use EQ to bring certain instruments out of a mix and make them 'pop' a bit better or recess them, but you cannot separate vocals unless you have a mutitrack recording.

QUICK, BEFORE YOU SPEND MONEY, WHAT YOU'RE TRYING TO DO IS NOT ACTUALLY POSSIBLE!

Also if you actually want a DAW, check out reaper. Way cheaper than any other top DAWs and just as good

You can download a trial and try it out.

You can make a project in the trial, but can;t open it afterwards. I highly recommend checking out the trial first.

(By the way, you may know this software as Fruity Loops too)

I use several DAWs, but the one I would suggest for editing would be ProTools. I like ableton and I really like cubase, but ProTools is the way to go. What exactly are you trying to edit? (For the record I think FL is not a good editing software, depending on what you mean by editing. I think it's a great sequencer though.)

This guy is trying to separate vocals or instruments from a stereo file. Which is not something you can actually do. You are right about FLStudio though. Great for electronic music for the sequencer.

So you can do it with centre panned, completely dry audio and you can't always only select one 'track'. In his video, you can still hear the vocal once he's done. Like I said, You cannot separate the vocal.

I agree with you that you can't really take out a vocal completely from a stereo track but there's ways you can take out enough of the vocal for it to be used for something like karaoke. It'll never be as clean as just re printing the track with thte vocal muted but depending on the track you can get pretty close.
