will having more fans plugged in with a 3 pin splitter effect the rpm or not. (say having 4 fans on the same connection)

thanks.

No it won't affect the speed if more fans are added but will increase the amperage but it's usually a good rule of thumb to not exceed 3 fans per motherboard fan header especially if they are relatively higher amp fans. Just make sure the fans you are using are a total of < 1Amp for the header.

If it does exceed or get too close to 1Amp something like this is good:

No it won't effect the RPM of the fans... but it is possible that you can blow out your motherboard. Most Motherboard fan headers are rated at 15 Watts, however this does vary board by board so make sure you check you manual or the manufacturers site. If you try to plug in enough fans that you go over the Wattage that the fan header can supply then you risk seriously damaging your board.

Also like @W-L said, there are ways to supply more power to more fans through molex, or even a 6-pin or 8-pin PCI-E if you need it. I prefer ModMyToys PCB based splitters to the regular wire based splitters, they are just easier to cable manage and to get to look nice.
