Hi,

Basically I'm a long time Mac user and after years of not being able to get certain software or games because of platform restrictions, I've decided to buy myself a PC designed for gaming.

I've got a price range of £750 ($1175) which needs to cover everything except Windows 8.1 and peripherals. I only need the system, really.

It's for a 1080p gaming system with a 21.5 or a 24-inch monitor.

The specs I've been looking at for my price range are the following:

Processor: Intel i5-4590 3.30GHz (Haswell) Processor

Processor Cooler: Cooler Master Hyper TX3 EVO Quiet CPU Cooler

Graphics Card: R9-280X 3GB Graphics Card

Memory: 8GB DDR3 1600MHz (2x4GB) Ballistixs

Storage: 2TB Seagate Barracuda 3.5 Hard Disk and 120GB Samsung 840 EVO Series

Motherboard: Gigabyte Z97X-Gaming 3 (ATX)

Power Supply: Corsair CX600M 600W Modular

Case: Corsair SPEC-03 WHITE Mid Tower Gaming Case

Optical Drive: LiteOn 24x DVD-RW Drive

So first off, are these good specs for this price point? This system would come pre-built with a 4-year warranty and has been reviewed by PC enthusiast JackFrags ( https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yjGpn9Ki9HI )  I was intrigued by Linus' recent holiday buyers guide and was wondering if his system is better?

Linus' Specs:

CPU: AMD FX-6300

Cooling: Cooler Master Hyper 212+ or Evo

SSD: Intel 520 240GB - NCIX, Amazon

Hard Drive: WD Green 3TB

Motherboard: ASUS M5A97 R2.0

Case: NZXT Source 210 Elite

Video Card: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 970

RAM: HyperX Fury Black 16GB

Power Supply: Corsair CX430W

So, what's better and efficient?

I want to be able to run games at a solid 60fps+ on high/ultra settings on AAA games like BF4, CoD etc and then be able to run games like ARMA III and ARMA II: DayZ Mod at a reasonable FPS. I don't plan to record games or edit at all, just regular internet browsing and gaming. Thanks guys.

Arma 3 uses much cpu, so ur config would do better in that way, it has a better cpu, but wouldnt be as noticeable as the gpu difference, the 970 would make u gain more or less 10fps in games...

Depends on ur "reasonable"

Linus system is better aimed towards games, While the other system is aimed towards Everything but wont be able to push as high FPS in games.

A 970 is about 40-70% more powerful than a R9 280x(i think)

But the i5 4590 is roughly 20-40% more powerfulk than a FX 6300

They are pretty different systems.

The build with the I5 will handle Huge MMO's like The Elder Scrolls Online and Planetside 2, and ARMA3 better.

My reccomendation : This way you can hackingtosh your PC ( Run OSX and Windows at the same time.) and really get the best of both worlds. It's really easy once you get the right hardware and since you already got a mac making a bootable USB is no problem.

Here's a guide to show you how easy it is:

and

http://www.tonymacx86.com/multi-booting/96000-guide-dual-booting-mountain-lion-windows-8-a.html

I'm currenly hackingtoshing a laptop , that's when it gets hard but a desktop is really easy.

Btw. The extra fan is to replace the rather noisy fan that comes stock with the seidon cooler.

If you have any further questions don't hesitate to PM me or just post in this topic, Goodluck building your ( First) PC!

Probably going to go with this but can anyone recommend a case for the same price point that's white or black, windowed and has good included fans/cooling?
