If the slot is Type A and the card is Type A it will work no doubt.

Well, i fixed my laptop's cooling problems, but now the GPU has decided to die on me showing messed colours, then finally lines all over the screen, well it's crap anyway, but for casual gaming.. i am stuck with integrated Express Family 4...

 

It was a AMD HD 4570 512MB DDR2...

 

The laptop works because i have 2 graphics options.

 

Now, i have seen a HD 6770 1GB GDDR5, i am just wondering if it would work fine? it is the same slot type, but the card is pulled from a HP laptop, and mine is a ACER Aspire 5935G.

 

It is the GM45/47 type chipset, the CPU and GPU are both upgradeable.

If it fits, it should work. Only thing I'm worried about is if the older PCI-E revision of the MXM slot might bottleneck the card.

This slot type is MXM type 3 version A i think.

It really is not risky, had my laptop open a few times for various things, everything in it is serviceable, and is one of the best MXM machines according a site on Google.

Ok, i was really wanting someone with laptop know how, but i know it is a niche topic, thanks all :)

I managed to get great advice on a different forum, but i am glad you all still helped.

 

Apparently the 6770m is romless, and my laptop will not take romless GPU's, so the most powerful card is the 7770m (Firepro m4000), which is great news, as this is a better GPU using the GCN architecture :)
