Sound card (code 12) error

Go to solution Solved by Sharif,

It was solved by simply removing one of the usb connections but the hard part was all the stuffs that got messed, recovering windows around a loop

After the update the avast update it won't startup

This device cannot find enough free resources that it can use. (Code 12)

If you want to use this device, you will need to disable one of the other devices on this system.

This also happened a day ago when i updated windows, then i restored my system to a point before the update it was all fixed, then i mistakenly updated it again but that time it worked

A day later

so my anti virus needed some updates and i had it updated and it asked me to restart which i did and then this happened....(the reason i looked into updating this is becasue youtube videos won't play on all broswer)

What is it that gives you the error? Is it Windows, Avast or the soundcard driver?

If it is the driver, then try uninstalling it, and install the UNI driver insted.

Asus is notorious for having horrible drivers (although they have become better). The UNI drivers aim to make the drivers less horrible.

The fact that this was a real issue for the ASUS cards drove me away from getting a Xonar DX. It's pretty damn bad if unified drivers are made for your product only to have it run normally/stable.

As @Volbet already said, reinstall drivers and maybe remove avast. Windows 8.1 comes with Windows defender which does the job easily (Never had troubles, works perfectly combined with common sense)

That's a bit weird.

What do you mean with "they"?

Does the sound card show up in Device manager? There might a way to force install the driver. I'll look into that.

Also try and uninstall Avast, seeing how that was what caused to the problem to begin with.

I also have been reading about eeprom somewhere

I further explanation would be nice. I can's really see how EEPROM plays into this.

Ahh, I see. I have never heard of that problem randomly occuring before.

It's probably worth checking if this is the case. Just check the ID as descibed in the article you linked.

If there is a problem with the EEPROM, then you will need to reflash it, to get it working.

For all I know that was a different issue. I can't positivly say, that it's the same thing that is wrong.

This is why you should check the hardware ID in Device manager. If the hardware ID is screwed up, then your problem is the EEPROM.

If the hardware ID isn't screwed up, then it's a different issue.

If it is the same problem as it was with Windows, uninstalling Avats would be a good first step.

Nope, that is not overwritten. The hardware ID is correct.

One problem out, a lot to go.

Have you tried uninstalling Avast? I really would like an answer to this.

Have you tried taking the soundcard out of the PCIe slot and reinstart it (possibly in a different slot)?

Thats odd even after going back to that time the same problem persists...

Wait i am not sure if am correct but after i ran this recovery before i went to bed,i woke up middle of the night and found the problem still persists(But i am not sure i was in "sleepy mode")then i shutted the computer down and went back to bed and woke up the next day, came back from school and started up my computer and it worked. (i also remember telling myself in school i got to find out how to fix it)

So how did it fix itself?
