Hey i am wondering if some one have some news about the 8GB GTX 980 and 970?

and how big will the defrince be?

Zero difference between the 4GB and 8GB models.

Until your actually go past the 4096MB of framebuffer, then the 4GB will cripple a little and have issues like stuttering gameplay or random hitching, while the 8GB model will be fine.

Maximums - Asus Z97-K /w i5 4690 Bclk @106.9Mhz * x39 = 4.17Ghz, 8GB of 2600Mhz DDR3,.. Gigabyte GTX970 G1-Gaming @ 1550Mhz

okay i am on 1080p now but will maby opgrade to 1440p..

Some idea what the price will be for the 8GB?

Consider the price of the R9 290x and the 8GB Model. should be similar.

I'd stick with the 4GB, nvidia seems to know what they're doing.

Dual 980s even triple would not offer enough performance for triple 4k resolutions. Unless one likes to try and play a slide show.

He didn't say triple 4K.

4GB is fine for 1440P. Spending extra money on 8GB is a complete waste.

I'd expect a $70-$120 increase in price.

Even multiple GTX 980s in SLI won't have enough raw power to perform well in any situation that actually needs 8GB of VRAM. There would be no point to a card like that, not to mention GTX 980 doesn't have enough memory bandwidth to effectively use 8GB of VRAM anyway. If an 8GB version is released, it will be a money-grab opportunity only and nothing more, the card itself would be completely pointless.

my gtx980 has 4096mb of ram

Shadow of mordor GPU memory usage on Ultra preset (textures on "high" I don't have the "Ultra" texture pack - it uses 6gb of vram)

4k: 3,883-4024 mb

1440: 3,300 mb

1080: 3,069 mb

IMO 4GB is fine but I am also interested in the 8GB versions because I can see devs releasing games with larger more varied textures over the next year because of the consoles having access to ~5GB, there are already a couple of games that can make use of >4GB. There will be a premium for the extra 4GB though so I would only go for it if you don't mind being a bit frivolous.

It depends on how the texturestreaming or memory utilization of the game actually functions. Games like Lord of the fallen and Watch Dogs actually fully saturate the memory and gain speed by using this instead of system memory of harddrive space. If the engine can prioritize which memory to load first and second, it can use the VRAM and System RAM to quickly load an store textures to prevent microstuttering caused by SSD or HDD seektimes.

Skyrim or Diablo do an exceptional poor job at this, to provide contrast. If they run out of memory, instant slide show. Lords of the fallen actually doesn't slow to a crawl when you've filled the memory.
