So is GTA 5 DX11 only or what?

Aniallation

So I'm thinking of picking up a 9800GX2 for my secondary rig which is a Phenom II X6 running off integrated Radeon HD 4250 graphics. I can get it for free if I'm willing to drive down and pick it up. There's going to be two games I'm aiming to be able to play on it; The Crew and GTA V.

The Crew I know for sure will work on DX10 GPUs, but so far there's been a lot of controversy on whether GTA V will support DX9/DX10, or if it will be DX11 only. Does anyone have a more justified answer then the nonsense that I've gone through with a Google search?

Why on earth would you want to try and run what will likely be a very graphically demanding game with that GPU?
You might as well save your time and gas money and just get a $40 newer card which will likely be a lot better.

Why not just pick up a r7 240 for like 40-50$?

It probably will run, they put so much into the game I'm sure there is directx 9 stuff in there somewhere.

Cause it's a classic. It's not that far of a drive anyways. $40 at my local PC shop will get you an HD 5450, which is apparently even worse then one of the GPUs in the 9800GX2.

The computer it'll be going in only has a 1440x900 monitor, and it's my little brother that will be playing the games and low settings is perfectly fine with him. I have my main rig for 1080p ultra-settings gaming.

edit: Although I believe an HD 5450 can run in Hybrid Crossfire with the integrated graphics on the board

The GTX 480 is a good heater too unless you go aftermarket, not an option for the GX2 :P

Yeah but surely there's better deals than that. I can go on Craigslist here and there are tons of better options.

Hell my dad picked up 2 6970's for $100.

GTX 480M?

Please don't reply if you don't have something useful to say that helps answer the original question. I know there are cards that are better then a 9800GX2. However I wanted this card for many years now, and now that I can get my hands on it (for free, I might add), I don't care if it runs very hot and poorly at demanding games.

You don't tell someone who bought a classic 1970 Camaro that they could have gotten a brand new 2015 one, that just makes you sounds stupid.

See i can be rude too, maybe you should have waited till i edited my typo.

GTX 480 may be hotter than today's cards, but the performance it pumps out is much more than any other card in it's price bracket.

1920x1080, ULTRA 2xMSAA, card is overclocked.

1920x1080, ULTRA.

That's definitely true and I won't doubt it, but there's reasons behind why I want to get a 9800GX2. It was my dream video card back when I built my first PC in 2008. Now I just wanna have one so it can have some sentimental value to me, and for the joy of knowing that I managed to get one after all.

I was just asking about TC and GTA 5 because my little brother wants to try them out on PC without having to use mine, and his white plastic MacBook obviously won't handle them. I have a 290X to do my gaming on.

I know the 9800GX2 is crap, I don't fucking care. It has value to me because I've always wanted one. I will get it, all I'm asking is if GTA 5 supports DX10 or not. That's all.

You obviously lack the IQ to be on this forum and are just starting flame wars instead of being helpful, as so, you have been reported.

I WILL BE GETTING THE 9800GX2. Don't argue with me about how another card will be better, less of a space heater, etc. because I don't care. It has personal value to me, and I will not be at any loss because I will not be using it for gaming MYSELF. I just want the sentimental value of finally owning my once dream GPU after 6 years.
