How long has the 60fps been available? I just learned about it recently.

It started way back in June, went full-access a few weeks ago.

the way i see it is 60fps has been possible since we could adjust playback speed. for gaming, you capture at 60fps, render the vid at half speed, 30fps, upload and play at 2x speed on youtube.

of course with the inbuilt option to just upload at that speed it's simpler now.

but what interests me now is that this opens up the possibility to play back 120fps using the same method. render at half speed, 60 fps, upload, and play at 2x speed.

Sounds good, but you might find it exceedingly hard to record at 120fps haha.

I have finally moved to a desktop. Also my guides are outdated as hell.

literally all of my friends' recordings are at 120fps. you just need a monitor that can display that.

You misunderstand. You need a program that will ALLOW you to set 120fps as a viable recording setting. I've got a 120Hz monitor and I've streamed at 120fps already... but Fraps, Playclaw 5, Dxtory, Shadowplay, etc seem to not let me set above 60fps for recording. I can only think of using OBS to do it.

Yeah my friend has that. His shadowplay records at 120fps. and i'm pretty sure fraps does it as well, i've seen people complaining about since it cause they're file sizes on fraps at 120fps are frieking enormous. dxtory supposedly does it as well

I have ABSOLUTELY NO IDEA how he manages to get Shadowplay to record at 120fps.

Haven't used Fraps or Dxtory in a while; I'll give them the benefit of the doubt.

I just tried manually typing in 120fps in Playclaw 5, and it seemed to accept it, though it is not an option in its fairly extensive dropdown menu (5, 10, 15, 23.97, 24, 29.97, 30, 59.94, 60). Haven't tested it on a game yet.

Either way, it's quite hard to record at 120fps, especially using something like Fraps, so I'm still skeptical that all your friends do it. Also, your tom's hardware link is broken.

one friend. and I think i may have been bullshitting about that without knowing

while it definitely IS POSSIBLE to record 120fps with some programs, i was certain (and wrong) that shadowplay had that option. turns out it barely just got 4k recording, tho 120fps shouldn't be that hard in comparison..?

sorry for misinformation mate.

It's been done.

ahhhhh. of course it's on CS:S xD

if only i had a 120hz monitor. gotta get me that Asus ROG swift ayee.

Hehe there we go. One general word of advice: try not to say things as fact if you're only vaguely sure about it. That way no misinformation spreads and everyone stays cool about it xD.

Anyway, the "extremely hard to record in 120fps" part was based entirely on the fact that recording drops your framerate, and the higher the resolution and the higher the framerate recorded at, the more the game resolution drops. You need a PC with MUCH more power than necessary to simply run a game at 120fps to actually manage recording at 120fps without experiencing framedrops, and also your hard drive has to support it.

I have finally moved to a desktop. Also my guides are outdated as hell.

Yeah, bit of a fault of mine.

and yeah, if you're using third-party software like fraps, dxtory etc, then frame drops are a problem, and file sizes would be ridiculous. however, if something like shadowplay got support of recording at 120fps, then it would be minimal, high quality and with relatively low size.

getting the high frame rates in the first place isn't that hard, if your PC is in any way modern, and if you have the 120hz monitor it kinda implies you can reach it. wish I could afford one since my 770 puts me above 100fps on bf4 often.

Audio is often screwed up this way, so it didn't work that well.
