If you what to get in to Fantasy then you can try The Night Angel trilogy from Brent Weeks, I have read these books 3 times now and just finished listening to the 3rd book from Audible last night, just brilliant.  If you want good war stories then try the Sharpe books (Sean Bean plays Sharpe in the 90's TV series) from Bernard Cromwell, hell, all the books from Bernard Cromwell are great reads.
