The best upgrade from GTX 460 I would like to stay under 250-300 top's

zoso_the_page

Hello everyone,

Right now i have a evga GTX 460 paired with a 2500k and a evga P67 SLI 16GB of 1600MHZ OCZ Blade RAM

My question is what is a good GPU to replace my GTX 460 with I have a gateway 30 inch monitor 2560 by 1600 i would to be able to play at native res on most games,i do not play crysis or battlefield games the only FPS i play are the bioshock games and i am looking to play blood dragon,i have yet to play infinite though id really like to.I play a bit of Guild wars 2 Diablo 3 Skyrim and starcraft 2 when i have time i have a 2 year old daughter who along with work take up 90 percent of my time,

I am thinking about getting a 7950 since it comes os many great game's and i also enjoy over clocking.

If anyone has suggestion please let me know

The most important thing to me is silence,I can not have a big headset on due to have a baby i have listen for her.

My questin are

1. What card for around the 200's it can be more but i would to stay under 300 unless there i super deal on somthing like a 7970 or 670/680?

2. Should look for another 460 to sli?

3. how much of performance gain will a new card in the 200-300 price range be? (i have 30 inch gateway 2560 by1600)

4. Will my CPU bottleneck my system?

Thank you for your help i am sorry iIf i typed sloopy its almost 2AM here were i live

Thanks - ZoSo

Don't do 460 SLI, the 7950 is a great choice, and a 2500k will definitely not bottleneck the GPU. The best thing I would do if I were you would be to go on Linus' channel and search benchmark showdown. You will see a variety of cards at a variety of pricepoints, and how they perform in popular titles. You can make your decision from there, but I bet you will find the 7950 is a great price to performance ratio, and will work well for you.

This is your best choice. Also you will see a massive difference especially if your 460 has 1GB GDDR5 because at this resolution Vram plays a strong part on your performance. Also the 2500k won't bottleneck your GPU but I would recommend overclocking it a bit.

Hope it helped.

i've heard decent things about them .

I don't know, but to me they're just one of those companies that sell the reference board and nothing else, they don't do much with their cards. Also I've seen more negative feedback from them. I guess they're good if you like loud reference coolers.

I've heard bad things about powercolor...

I've been using PowerColor for a while now, even since the 9800Pro days IIRC, nothing wrong with them. They've been an exclusive ATi/AMD partner for years now...one of my HD7970's is a PowerColor model.

buy a used 680 for $250-325USD. since the 700-series popped out, the GTX pricing

has fallen on used cards and mostly the 600-series (2-2.5 warranty left). just a suggestion.

Oh, they do use 3rd party coolers as well, this is my HD7970, reference board but with a non-reference cooler...

Don't forget the never settle reloaded that comes with an Amd card these days. Some good value to be had.

this right here, you can buy some GPU like 7950 and get some games too. I think it is awesome deal
