GTX 570 1.25GB vs HD 6970 2GB

rcarlos243

I need to pick which one of the two should I get.

Both are roughly at the same price.

I know both cards are old and it doesn't support new features such as shadow play, DSR, mantle, etc...

Games I play are Dota 2, Grid Autosport, F1 2013.

I am wondering if there is any significant feature between the two that could potentially sway purchase decision. I am also wondering how does the performance and stability evolved on both cards with newer drivers.

Looking at old reviews comparing both it seems like the GTX 570 has much more consistent minimum FPS.

Also note that I am gonna use this card mainly as a temporary/back up gpu as I killed my main gpu GTX 780 when overclocking with 1.212v llc disabled and I do not have any spare one .

Yeah, we're all just a bunch of idiots experiencing nothing more than the placebo effect.

Any specific reason as to why would I pick HD 6970 over a GTX 570 on a 1080p monitor?

OP .. damn about what happened to your GTX 780.  Fingers crossed I never have a video card go down.  I have had one bad psu which I paid $99 for which still eats at me cuz it is under warranty but pointless to ship back as cost cuts into what they will send back to me.  As for the cards mentioned ...

http://www.hwcompare.com/9020/geforce-gtx-570-vs-radeon-hd-6970/

GTX 570 beats the 6970 in many games there and then you also get PhysX with the GTX 570

Also look at this site and tells you the games they looked at and the GTX 570 won again ...

That's interesting as most of the benchmark I've seen comparing the two shows the GTX 570 leading in min FPS and about 2-7fps deficit in max fps. Considering those test are conducted old, I also heard that AMD released frame pacing driver fix that also affected max fps performance(it decreased).

Can you show the link comparing the two gpu in games?

The 6970's 2GB Vram will help with certain stuttering situations that the 570's 1.25GB can't hold up against. (Again, this isn't definitive all round, all games are different)

I had my older 6970 in my machine while my 290 was RMA'd, For 1080p @ High Details (Not Ultra) /w 0xAA it was getting 55-70fps Average on Seige of Shanghai 64p MP.

Plenty of power for most games to be run with more than 30fps.

I've not used it, however do know of its performance,....I'm sure the 570 is a powerhouse, but with 1.25GB of Vram, not all but some modern games may suffer from that.

Maximums - Asus Z97-K /w i5 4690 Bclk @106.9Mhz * x39 = 4.17Ghz, 8GB of 2600Mhz DDR3,.. Gigabyte GTX970 G1-Gaming @ 1550Mhz

6970 as is a little faster and will not choke on games that need the vram.

Physx lol

Why would the OP get the 6970 when the GTX 570 beats it or matches it in many games and can also offer PhysX?  Your laughing about this is silly.

Give me a break.  The 6970 hardly beat the GTX 570 in Skyrim and the FPS for the GTX 570 are not even close to being crappy.  Get the GTX 570 OP.

Can't run much mods in Skyrim on the 570 due to ... Vram limited/gimped.

570 slams the 6970 when OC'd vs OC, the 6970 overclocks poorly.

I feel like I'm reading a thread from late 2011.

but in all seriousness, why not consider a GTX 750 Ti?

GTX 760/R9 270 or go home as the 570 with an OC is a contender believe it or not.

Look at the benchmarks in that other person's post for Skyrim and see why I recommended the GTX 570.  It pretty much hangs with the 6970 and a GTX 570 offers more which is PhysX for other games so why get the 6970?  What can't you understand?

Because you make nearly all your argument on Physx ( which is utterly pointless tech in 2014 ) and you make the arguments like the 570 is better at higher resolutions. while the fact in some games its on par with a 580 ( and when the resolution is turned up passes the 580 )

The moment you go to 1920x1080p at higher settings the 6970 preforms better in most games and some it preforms as good.

Streth to a 6xx series nvidia card, the two you are looking at are relativley hot and loud, the 6xx series moved to 28nm transistors

It's all about price. I can get either the GTX 570 or HD 6970 for $60.

I looked around even the newer generation cards (used or refurb) but I can't get any card that has similar or better performance for $60 than the two I am considering atm.

Also keep in mind that I was running a GTX 780 until I killed it while oc so I am not considering spending more than $60 unless I get significantly more performance for slightly higher price.

This card will mainly be used as a temporary/back up gpu until I get my GTX 780 repaired or when I am upgrading my main gpu.

Yeah, we're all just a bunch of idiots experiencing nothing more than the placebo effect.
