Audio setup suggestion sticky?

Lyons

Thanks merc, interesting point about software. I've decided I'll make up a spreadsheet, probably separate for speakers, headphones and soundcards /DACs etc. that'll beaaccompanied by an explanation of as much as possible.

I agree with some of the people here that this thread is completely biased. The thing is audio is something that is mainly opinion, everyone likes their audio differently. I think that instead of posting brands to stay away from or brands that are good post something like "I would recommend these" and "I enjoy this product". Everyone is not going to agree on the same thing especially in a subject that is based so heavily on opinion. For instance I like my Kirk rokkit 8's and my Tascam us-1641, but that doesn't mean that it is the best and you should only buy from those brands. Please keep in mind that this is my opinion on this topic.

Still just a list of brands, if you need any help with anything in particular especially relating to the laws of audio and amplification let me know :)

Also putting together a guide... it's essentially all taken from Head-Fi, NwAvGuy and a wiki, it's all great stuff so there isn't much point writing my own. Still very much in progress, obviously.

I did, apparently it didn't open properly or something, because i couldn't scroll father up than the first Grado headphones. Also, your prices are outdated/wrong for somethings, I found DT990 Pros for $165 http://www.long-mcquade.com/products/1584/

I just tried opening it again and all you need to do is scroll up and you will see the rest of the spreadsheet. I made it on Office 15, not sure if that has anything to do with it.... maybe click enable editing? I'm aware some pricing will be wrong, the majority of them were taken from Amazon. When putting something together like this it's much easier to get everything from a single source, at least for a draft. The figures are ballpark and anyone using it as a guide will surely go further than simply looking there. I'll update it as people advise.

Anybody got brands/models to add? Might start the speaker list now, or maybe the soundcard/DAC one given that's what a lot of people ask about.

how about a separate sticky on how to ask for help picking headphones.

list off music preferences gaming preferences tone preference. isolation and of course price.

also possibly a glossary of terms like warm neutral to describe sound characteristics.

The current list addresses a few of them and is complemented by the guide, but I'll add more. Thanks.
