Never go with the enthusiast platform, that'd just be wasted money.

Unless you're trying to run shit in 4k whilst streaming or something.

so is moving to Intel worth the £200-£400 price tag even for the 4th gen cpu's thanks for the quick reply :)

If you've got an 8350, no. Maybe with Intel's new consumer chips you can justify it but as of right now, you won't get that much of a performance improvement.

No

Not worth it just for gaming.

What do you play?

a lot of battlefield, shadow of morder when it comes out, a lot of assassins creed, crysis :)

It's about 30% faster, give or take a few percent. You won't get much money for your old card so unless you feel like paying a good $200 on a 970, not worth it. But that's up to you.

What is usually recommended is a 4690K but it's not really worth it at this point.

Pretty decent video comparing the 8350 to a 4670K (both OC'd):

I'd stick with the 8350 and wait to upgrade.

System: Thinkpad T460

You'd see a better improvement from a new GPU rather than a new CPU. The games you listed are mainly GPU limited, that 280x isn't really a demanding card. Go for a new GPU and maybe later upgrade to Intel.
