So i have a crossfirex setup shown in the picture below.

My issue is that the top slot card is running PCI-E 2.0 @ x8 when it should be running x16. The bottom slot card is running x16.

Motherboard shown in the picture below.

More info found here https://www.asus.com/Motherboards/CROSSHAIR_IV_FORMULA/#specifications

Now it does say this on the website and in the motherboard manual, "3 x PCIe 2.0 x16 (dual @ x16, triple @x16 x8 x8)"

Duel @ x16. Now to do this the manual says to have the cards in slot number 1 and number 3 which is how i have them set up.

This is what gpu-z says.

Slot number 1 Asus Directcu II HD6970

Slot number 3 Gigabyte HD6970

I have recently re installed windows 7 which didn't solve it. Also tried both cards in the slot number 1 and they both show up running @ x8.

I don't think that motherboard is able to run in dual 16x to be perfectly honest. Its something to do with the chipset. Have you tried updating the Motherboard chipset/BIOS recently? And are both of the PCI-E slots wired for 16x?

The bios is on the latest stable version. The slots are wired for x16. The website and the manual that comes with the board both say that dual crossfire runs at x16 x16 in slots 1 and 3. The weird thing is that its slot number 1, the main slot for graphics cards that is running in x8. Slot 3 runs fine in x16.

Flashed bios to one of the latest beta ones, didnt make a difference so i put it back to the latest standard version. Ive sent an email to asus as its to late to call them. Anyone else know what could be the problem. Going to try out a different driver, go back to the 13.4 driver rather than the 13.6 beta driver that im currently using, tho i dont think that it will make a difference as slot 3 works fine at 16x. Ive also tried take the cards out again to see if they were not seated correctly, that didnt make any difference either. One other thing, when i disable crossfire with both cards in the Asus one in slot 1 idles at x8 PCI-E 1.1? Whats going on. Anyone know specifically if i can force the slot to x16 in the bios?
