Memory for FX8350 on Sabertooth for video and photo editing

wicknot
Go to solution Solved by WoodenMarker,

The timings should matter more.

Go for cheaper ram.

For moderate video and photo editing, FX8350  on an Asus Sabertooth 990FX r.2.0.  Considering these two G.Skill sets:

G.Skill Ripjaws Z F3-1866C9D-16GZH (16gb at 1866MHz, 9-9-9)

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820231625

G.Skill Ripjaws X F3-2133C9D-16GXH (16gb at 2133MHz, 9-11-11)

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820231571

I will be overclocking some - not crazy.

The Ripjaws X are 1.6v, while the Ripjaws Z are 1.5v.  Is that something to consder, or do the timings matter more?

Thanks

chad

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I thought AMD processors like yours didn't benefit much from RAM speeds beyond 1866. I'm not too sure though.

CPU: Intel i5-2320 @ 3.9gHz

GPU: MSI GTX 670 PE @ 1411/7387

I wanna go fast! :P

This is right, timings can matter more, but there's still no good reason to spend 150$ on 16GB of RAM. The performance difference between 50-60$ kit and the ones you've put forth are unnoticeable, if not completely negligible.

Edit: On your platform at least.

Please quote me if you want me to see your post about my post, otherwise I may lose track of the thread and never see it.

I'd love to help, but I'm probably gonna' have to ask for more info before we can get anything done.

Have a wonderful day.

Also, a 16gig kit shouldn't cost $50-60. Where do you shop????
