very cheap capture card?

Go to solution Solved by Lingering,

These look cool and fit in your price range, here is a blunty review of the Live Gamer Portable LITE

Hey guys!

Need a capture card for a very specific one off time... I was thinking this - http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Full-HD-1080P-HDMI-to-USB-Blu-ray-DVR-Video-Capture-Card-Grabber-H-264-Xmas-Gift-/121475029935

From the specification it sounds perfect. I do need 1080p and it will be streaming live. But why is this so cheap? Will it be ok or will it just be absolutely terrible?

Don't fancy spending more than £50 uk pounds tbh, even that is high!

Thanks!

LGP (non-lite) is pretty awesome. I have not ever streamed, but recorded a lot so far.

1920x1080p 30fps @ 60Mbps

1366x720 50fps @ 60Mbps

1280x720p 60fps @ 60Mbps

Considering youtube butchers the quality anyway, I see hardly much difference (with butchered YT quality) between upscaled 720p @ 30fps and 1080p @ 30fps, when BOTH are output at 1080p and put on youtube.

Sure, the 720p @ 1080p may look a little muddy, but with using 60fps, you notice is a little less and focus more on the action, not the ambience of Textures quality.

The LGP has limits, you cannot read the xD card from within the unit, needing an adapter. The PC-Free mode is locked to 12Mbps 720p (dunno if 30 or 60fps)

Software can bug out, and has to be restarted (no biggie) and then there is the losing sync when changing res/refresh while recording is active (expected, but not documented)

HDMI Scaling set in GPU properties and its good to go (removing black bars around recordings) . I have LGP's HDMI input coming from my GPU's 2ndary output DVI>HDMI convert, "mirrored' from the first DVI output to my LCD.

Most would do a passthrough, which I have used, but with cable length and such, I have it layed out on my desk without passthrough.

A great overall unit. +1 for all those buying one that DO not need 1080p @ 60fps, when 720p Upscaled 60fps is just as fine for youtube until they UP bitrate quality themselves.

Maximums - Asus Z97-K /w i5 4690 Bclk @106.9Mhz * x39 = 4.17Ghz, 8GB of 2600Mhz DDR3,.. Gigabyte GTX970 G1-Gaming @ 1550Mhz
