My current rig is as follows:

CPU: a10-5800k

MOBO: Gigabyte f2a85x-up4

GPU: MSI GTX 660 Ti

RAM: 16 GB hyper x 1600mhz

At first I was going to upgrade my GPU due to poor graphics performance on BF4, but after posting another thread I figured out its most likely my CPU which is bottlenecking me.

I've decided to purchase a mobo and cpu to finally make the switch to intel. I'm going to be picking up the MSI Gaming 7 MOBO, but for the CPU is the i7 worth the extra cost over the i5? I don't plan on rendering or anything like that currently, just gaming.

For pure gaming the i5 should suffice but the i7 should be more "future proof" as more titles are going to support more than 4 threads. (BF4 being an example)

And yes you should see an improvement with a CPU upgrade but really I think you should upgrade both to achieve maximum performance.

What settings are you looking forward to play at?

The i7 is not worth it if your just gaming, it will give you a very little boost in performance. Just buy the i5 and use the money you saved to upgrade something else.

since you are only going to play games, then an i7 will be overkill.

An i5 will be totaly fine.

Battlefield is a CPU intensive game

I recommend i7 if u have the money and u are to overclocking it

“It would seem that Our Lord finds our desires not too strong, but too weak. We are half-hearted creatures, fooling about with drink and sex and ambition when infinite joy is offered us, like an ignorant child who wants to go on making mud pies in a slum because he cannot imagine what is meant by the offer of a holiday at the sea. We are far too easily pleased.”

Well BF4 doesnt do much better on an i7 then on an i5.

BF4 is multi threaded, and is capable to use all the threads availeble.

However this still not results in much higher frame rates, the only advantage that the i7 has over the i5, is that there will be less load on the cores.

your cpu (or apu) A10 5800k is not "a real" bottleneck lol

but is time to buy "a true" GPU card friend (and let the old GPU back)

buy the R9 280  ^_^

or the R9 280X   B)

- - - -

(and you can buy a new cooler and do a bit of OC on that apu also, ahe is K after all)  ;)

but yea, if you want a new cpu, any i5 or i7 are great cpus friend (just skip all dual core)

APU = A10

Around 1 ftps different.

Also the 4690k will overclock just as well as the 4790k.

I have my 660 Ti overclocked, and after monitoring all my usage with cpu and gpu and ram, I can see that my gpu runs at an average of 60-65% load where as all cores on my cpu run at 87-90%. I assume this means that my CPU is holding me back? I'm playing at medium settings, and in game I run around 55fps.

90% is not a bottleneck friend

(99% it is)

many games like use a lot of cpu, just because they can  <_<

- - - -

is true you will win some fps more if you "spend" +250.$ on a new motherboard and cpu

but my point is that... a new gpu, will deliver 3x more fps for the same money you spend

- - - -

still, i am a conspiracy guy

and i do believe nvidia work better with intel  -_-

soo is not a bad change jump to the blue side friend (and the i5 is awesome)

- - - -

but, if you will do the jump, do it well friend  ^_^

the hell with all low pentium and i3 crap they have

time to buy an i5  :)

(and you can sell the A10 for good money, all A8 and A10 sells well)

APU = A10
