Ive been looking to upgrade from 1080p to 1440p soon. Ive made the decision on the monitor, Asus PB278q, good price, great features and from what Ive heard all around great monitor. Anyways, I currently have a 770 in my rig and Im wondering what kind of GPU power would be necessary. I am considering 1-2 980s because I want to be able to crank up the games setting and achieve above 60 fps to take advantage of 144 hz, but I dont want to have to buy two 980s if I dont have to. The only game I really worry about is Skyrim. I am a huge Skyrim modder and I use Seasons of Skyrim ENB and having an ENB will absolutely obliterate your FPS depending on the GPU you have. So what GPU would be necessary and would the PB278Q be a good recommendation for a 1440p, 144 hz monitor?

Either save money get a Korean 1440p, or get a BenQ BL2710PT.

would the PB278Q be a good recommendation for a 1440p, 144 hz monitor?

Read above, and the PB278Q is not a 144Hz monitor.

Honestly, one 980 would suffice for 1440p perfectly, but obviously if you can afford 2 then whip out that cash and enjoy the higher framerates.

Also, that monitor is a really solid one, I've heard the colors are accurate and natural.

Complete overkill unless you want tearing with vsync off.

But if he wants to crank up AA and all that, why not? If he can afford 2, he can definitely get one for 1440p.

Because of the pixel density? AA is pointless at 108ppi.

its not just AA.

Go look at the minimum frame rates in taxing games, they aren't 60fps.

Not entirely, plus again, when is more power ever a bad thing? If he's planning on keeping it for a while, then a 980 would last much longer with better textures and more tessellation coming out in games; it's better equipped for 1440p beyond this fall's games.

Because people with more money than brains would choose a 980 over a 970. Do you honestly believe the 980 is worth the premium to warrant purchasing it over a 970?

Anyways, I don't care. It's your money @JoshK

May I ask which specific features those are?

Stuff like the new Voxel Lighting System they demoed, stuff to reduce VR headset latency, better DSR compatibility (and more power to use it), a new codec that converts h.264 video (such as in ShadowPlay) at 6-7 times faster, stuff like that.

Not anything exclusive like 'PhysX is only compatible with Maxwell!' but if you aren't planning on buying a card for a while, it's not a bad idea to jump ship.
