painting ram?

Go to solution Solved by W-L,

so im planning on a all white and black build with the nzxt s340 and msi krait mobo.

right now my ram is blue and i want to paint it white. if i use plastidip will it affect proformance in any way?

Nope nothing to worry about since RAM is low heat output there isn't any worry about painting over the heatsink unlike a CPU cooler or something else like that, you also have the advantage of peeling it off if you need to RMA or change it to another build.

It should be fine! But tbh i would take ram with a thermal probe in it, just to be sure the temps are fine. But tbh i won't be too worried about performance, it should work perfect if there's no heat issue.

If you want my attention, quote meh! D: or just stick an @samcool55 in your post :3

It won't affect performance at all, just make sure that the coat isn't too thick just to be safe.

It shouldn't affect performance, unless you manage to break it of course :P

i ment plastidiping the heat spreaders themselves

I would suggest taking off the heatspreader to paint with palsti-dip since you won't have to mask over the PCB or contacts to prevent plasti-sip from getting on it. Most cases it's just a matter of warming up the thermal adhesive with a hair dryer or very low setting on heat gun to make separating the adhesive easier.

You can plastidip both your RAM and their heatspreaders. I see no reason to paint the RAM because the heatspreaders will be over the top of the RAM, but hey. It will make such a negligible difference in regards to temps.

If you do go ahead and do it, welcome to the plastidip club. I did my mobo.

Of course it will effect performance on the ability for the them to dissipate heat.

So long is it's very thin it won't be a very negative effect.

Pretty sure he's asking if it'd affect the performance of the RAM itself, and even then, heat spreaders in most cases aren't even necessary.
