RAM Speed

Go to solution Solved by harrynowl,

CPU-Z also says 800Mhz, just like Speccy.

Stupid task manager.

Ok, should be running at 1600mhz then :)

please mark the thread as solved if you're done here :)

Hi,

I have 8GB (2x 4GB) of ddr3 ram clocked at 1600Mhz (standard). I noticed windows doesnt recognize it's speed, and says it is 667Mhz.

Then i checked in speccy, and there it is the same. 667 Mhz.

Why is this?

Thanks in advance.

.

go into bios and turn on the xmp profile for 1600Mhz, the number it says on the package is what the manufacturer tested it for, before downclocking it(for mobo compatibility) if you want advertised ram speeds you actually have to overclock it... but wouldn't you hate it more if you put ram in your mobo and it fried or didn't work and you had to find a mobo it was compatible with and down clock it your self? Also you have 2 dimms so multiply the number by 2 you are currently at 1333Mhz...

That'd be DDR3-1333MHz.

Have you set XMP in your UEFI?

Nope, it was on auto.

So i changed it to XMP 1.3, and set the XMP 1.3 to 1600Mhz.

Now i checked in tastmanager and speccy, but nothing changed.

Ok, reloaded to UEFI and changed the timings.

In the UEFI they appeared to run at 9-10-10-25. Out of the box, they should be 9-9-9-24.

So i set them manually to 9-9-9-24 and now speccy seems to appear the frequency as 800Mhz, but task manager still show 667Mhz.

Why? And why does the frequency change when i lower the latency?
