HD 7870 Crossfire with HD 7870 XT (with boost)

Hey,

I was just wondering if it was possible to crossfire the 7870 non boost with the newer XT boost version?

Are the GPU still similar enough to achieve this or do I need to find a non boost version.

Cheers.

I am not sure, but why would you want to do crossfire in the first place? Currently, they are having driver problems, and in some cases the performance is worse than with a single card. Even if you do do crossfire, I don't think you will enjoy the experience. I would suggest selling your card, and going for a single, higher powered GPU, such as the GTX 780.

7870XT belong to the Tahiti family (7970/7950) you can't mix marry it to the Pitcairn (7870/7850).

Thanks for clearing that up for me, looks like my HD 7870 needs to go soon. I was curious because 7870 CF is very powerful for its cost considering I already have one card.

This, I have the 7870Ghz in CFX, right now the stuttering is apparent in most games, some I don't notice it at all. Examples being Farcry3 it is very noticeable but in Skyrim its not. I'd suggest saving money for a better single GPU solution and if you've not got a card by June/July when the new driver comes out which will fix the problem with CFX then you can get another 7870Ghz. :)

AMD Ryzen 5900x, Nvidia RTX 3080 (MSI Gaming X-trio), ASrock X570 Extreme4, 32GB Corsair Vengeance RGB @ 3200mhz CL16, Corsair MP600 1TB, Intel 660P 1TB, Corsair HX1000, Corsair 680x, Corsair H100i Platinum

Around 50% of games scale and display perfectly. Still, a 50% success rate isn't worth it atm.

Can't wait until AMD sort this issue out.

Indeed but they are finally getting around to fixing the issue and on those titles where it works well already the performance is really good.

Well I'm in no rush so good idea, the NVidia 700 series make my 7870 look bad so I thought I'd CF it for better performance.

Although multi-gpu as far as I'm aware is notorious for micro stutter which I'm not looking forward to :| , maybe AMD can get the stuff sorted soon and I'd dish out for another 7870.

I recently installed Radeon Pro (give it a search) and it actually fixed the micro stutter to an unnoticeable amount, like seriously its running smooth and perfect. Saw a post on here about it so I gave it a try and damn.
