Hey guys,

I just finished a build and in it I have a MSI Geforce GTX 970. The GPU fans aren't spinning and the kraken x61 software says its temp is at 47 celcius.

Is there anyway I can force the GPU fans to start spinning or is it possible the fans were dead on arrival?

Use MSI Afterburner to set your own fan curves

Isn't that the new card that doesn't spin the fans until 55 C?

It's natural. The MSI 970 fans don't spin at idle or when under low load, since the Maxwell GPU is efficient enough to run with the heatsink alone when it's not pushed that hard.

As you can see in this video, even with a benchmark running, it takes almost two minutes for the GPU to warm up to the point where the fans are needed to provide sufficient cooling.

To make sure the fans work, run something like Furmark that will put a heavy load on the GPU.

So, you bought the MSI GTX 970 and didn't notice right on the box and in the manual it says the fans don't run until it reaches ~60 degrees?

It's normal. It runs this way so it stays silent. Run a more demanding game that will bring the temps up and you'll see the fans kick on.  ;)
