sup!?

1 OR 2 months ago i started upgrading my 2 and a half years rig:

Bought:

SCREEN: Benq XL2411Z @144HZ

CPU: i5 4690K

MOBO: MSI Z97 Gaming 3

CPU COOLER: Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO <- epic

SSD: Crucial MX100 256GB

Still waiting for upgrade:

RAM: 8GB 1333 MHZ

GPU: ASUS EAH 6850 1GB GDDR5

so about the GPU upgrade, I almost ordered the gtx 970 g1 gaming, just didnt done it for 1 thing, the mufucking coil whinning...

started thingking to buy a cheaper one for +/- 300 €, a r9 280X or other one since I will mainly play CS:GO...

the gtx 970 is overkill for it but i will have a gpu that will last a long time...

what r9 280x should i buy ? or other model for 300 € budget.

or should i buy a gtx 970 when the freaking coil whine problem is solved even if its going to be solved at all...

toughts =)?

if the coil whine is a problem get the asus 970 strix or evga acx 2.0 970

This is the most wrongest of things I've heard for a while. Coil Whine IS NOT determined by brand. ASUS or EVGA are not immune or resistant to coil whine. It's luck of the draw whether you get a card with lots of it or none of it (Mine has none WOOHOO!). The Gigabyte G1 Gaming GTX 970 is by far the best cooler and is the best performing due to chip binning and a really good custom PCB. It's not the quietest because it uses 3 smaller fans as opposed to 2 bigger fans BUT it's still pretty damn quiet.

RIG: I7-4790k @ 4.5GHz | MSI Z97S SLI Plus | 12GB Geil Dragon RAM 1333MHz | Gigabyte G1 Gaming GTX 970 (1550MHz core/7800MHz memory) @ +18mV(Maxed out at 1650/7800 so far) | Corsair RM750 | Samsung 840 EVO 120GB, 1TB Seagate Barracuda | Fractal Design Arc Midi R2 (Closed) | Sound Blaster Z                                                                                                                        Getting: Noctua NH-D15 | Possible 250GB Samsung 850 Evo                                                                                        Need a console killer that actually shits on every console? Here you go (No MIR/Promo)

This is why you should not get an FX CPU for ANY scenario other than rendering on a budget http://linustechtips.com/main/topic/286142-fx-8350-r9-290-psu-requirements/?p=3892901 http://linustechtips.com/main/topic/266481-an-issue-with-people-bashing-the-fx-cpus/?p=3620861

definetly 970. Like said although some companies may have reoccurring issues, it really is just chance whether or not you'll get one with whine.

The way I understand it, Coil whine could be on-set by QC, therefore lower quality parts might very well lead to coil whine, and as such, could be linked directly to brand. The Twin Frozr series, for example is notorious for coil whine.

Yes, at large, it is entirely possible that it is luck of the draw.

Mine is not really giving off the coil whine. My old Coil Whine was on my old sexy MSi GTX 770 Lightning. But was either the GPU or my old 750W XFX Core series PSU.

One way to also fix coil whine is to lock your FPS to 1:1 ratio with your Monitor's hz. Say if you have 60hz monitor lock fps to 60fps, if you have a 144hz lock it to 144hz. Alternatively you can go to Nvidia control panel and get Vertical Sync on adaptive mode and it will automatically lock your fps equal to your monitor's Hertz. <- this also fix screen tearing if you have SLi mode. And at the same time keep your GPU's cool as they only need to do 60fps & not trying to work hard to get 100+

In my experience, I was getting coil whine when my FPS shoots to the roof 300+ fps or more mostly from loading screens or benchmark's. I fixed my Lightning Coil whine after I locked the fps to 60 although I sold it 4 days ago now. That card still looked sexy though  :( Her name was Johanna... lol xD:D

to lock my fps @ 144 i would just keep my actual gpu :P i want to lock atleast @350 FPS otherwise i wouldnt buy the gpu...i want to get stable frames, and 350 ill give me the smoothness i really need with my screen. cause with 144 locked it gives stutering... :\

ps. a guy from my country has one like yours, asked him, he said huge coil whine, fuck  my life...

i would probably get 350 locked fps all the time with a cheaper one like the r9 280x or the gtx 770 or smth like that...

i just dunno what i should do tbh..

well if you don't want to hear your gpu crying like a little girl >.<

you can always get a head strap and hang some really hard hitting woofers :)

lol tried it once with those box speakers that can be powered with usb. lol hurts the ear.

anyways moving OT.

G1 from gig and the msi one are fine. crying girls are kinda like a luck of the draw if you're on the lucky side.

not sure about your place but it's better to ask if you can return the card and exchange for a newer one just in case you hear the girls cry :).

although yeah it's annoying :). used to have some cards in sli back then and it sounds like twin little girls crying. even with closed back headphones I still some how hear them a little and it annoys the bejesus out of me >.<

Are you planning on SLi? Or Single 970?

Stuttering is not that common unless your doing an SLi.

As for the coil whine, really depends if you get a good card. Sometimes it is also not the Card that causes the whine, it can also be caused by the PSU.

You don't really need 350fps xD, 144fps + 144hz will give you an edge already. But its just my opinion :).
