i would say somthing like a 280(x) would be as high as you want to go, but another option would be to get a cheap 290(under 250$ usd in some cases) and a i5 4690k if he has about 500$

If you're overclocked and playing games that use only one or two cores, an overclocked G3258 will not bottleneck any GPU on the market right now.

r9 280 or gtx 760 is as high as you want to go...a better card is still worth it...just dont monitor gpu load.

The G3258 is fast enough that he probably should just worry about picking the best thing for his budget and the monitor he intends to use it with. If 1080p, the R9 280, 280X, or 290 are fine choices.

If you're CPU-bound in a game and your GPU isn't working as hard as it could, that's an excuse to turn on more graphics options. If you run out, there's always DSR for Nvidia cards, and with AMD you can use third-party apps and injectors to add more settings.

the g3258 has to be the most overrated part in all hardware history...when i disable 2 cores on my i7 i can hardly get 60% gpu load in most games at 1080p even at 4.5ghz and my i7 got 8mb of faster cache...

It has been shown by a digital foundry video that the G3258 can sustain about 70-80 fps in bf4, so I wouldn't get any single card that can run above that mark on ultra settings. ;)

He's probably on H81 or B85 do he can't oc a 4690K.

Also, any single graphic card should do fine, but SLi/CF might cause bottlenecks
