Is g-sync worth it? or should I wait?

j.dirona

So recently I've started upgrading my desktop starting with getting a zotac 970 and planning on an ssd. However I was wondering if it's worth it yet to buy a g-sync monitor for competitive gaming or if I should wait for them to drop in price? or will there be significantly better g-sync monitors coming in the near future?

Please use http://pcpartpicker.com/ for everybodones sake!

and quote me if you want me to see a reply please :)

G-sync is like going from HDD to SSD, You'll never go back to a HDD.

If you want everything to look buttery smooth without tearing then get a g-sync monitor

They are pretty great, but a little pricey imo. Personally I am waiting. I just ordered a R9 290 yesterday if that gives you any hint of how long I am waiting for... lol. Hopefully in a year they will be more affordable, and I plan to get a 4k gsync monitor with an accompanying nvidia gpu.

G-Sync

The Gr8 Deb8.

I'm just waiting for amd to release freesync and for nvidia to get off their high-horse and make the technology less than $200.

Do you think you need it now? Wait a month. Still think you need it? If your answers are both yes, then get it

What I honestly would like to know,

Does it really matter that much.

How can you justify the purchase of a G-Sync monitor, I personally dont see anything with my normal 1080p VN247H-P.

I don't think it's really worth it price/performance-wise. YET. The 1440p gsync monitor is around 600USD. If you go that route though, then you'll most likely be looking at another upgrade to 4k in a year or two. The 4k gsync monitor is around 800 USD, but it's manufactured by acer and capped to 60hz. Both of these monitors use sub-optimal TN panels lacking in color depth. Gsync is also new tech that is very expensive to consumers.

Because you have a 970 (very close to my 780 performance-wise) you can count on the fact that you can run most games at 60+fps and vsync should work fine for stuttering and tearing issues.

I'm rolling with the notion, that because I have only gamed at 1080p I can't really miss 2k or 4k, only gamed with optional vsync (on 144hz monitor) so can't miss Gsync.

The tech is awesome, and I'm stoked for the industry's progression. But I'm not rich and buying into day one tech like gsync is bound to sting a little. Try your hardest to avoid first generations of new tech hardware.

My plan is to wait for something offering the least amount of compromise. I'm holding out for a 4k,gsync,IPS and hopefully higher than 60hz refresh that, manufactured by a reliable company, and sold at a reasonable price. It may take a couple years, but our GPUs will need that time to play catch up anyways.

Edit

Read my post and see I brought resolution into the equation without prompt by OP. My apologies is derailing occurs. Though it is a considerable spec when looking at a monitor upgrade.

This! If you have the spare cash and need a monitor upgrade, GET G-sync! I can't go back to any other monitor now.

What GPU do you have? (can't see signatures on mobile) Does gsync let you play games like metro with no stutter /tear?

Gtx 980. Yeah absolutely not a single tear or stutter at all, I can even spin my mouse around and thrash it really fast and still just smoothness and not a single tear or stutter. FPS dips are also way less noticeable. I have nothing but positive things to say about G-sync.

It's worth it man. $200 i agree is a lot but if you plan to use the monitor for years to come $200 is nothing... I personally can't play any game without it. I works on pretty much any game that supports V sync. CSGO w/ G SYNC= Better Experience
