"Stupid" GPU Guestion

So i got this comment in YT and i have no idea what he means, even google did not help. (He is talking about MSI gtx 970)

i would guess he means what version, for example, Zotacs 780 has 2 versions, one newer.

MSI only have one version of that card so i an not sure if he means that.

well the old version would be taken off the market once sold out, and you can only really see the difference in the serial, Zotacs changed the last number in the product number to a 6 from a 5, thats it, nothing else showed a difference

Or he could be talking about revisions, just like a motherboard, you have several same board like rev 1, rev 2, rev 3, rev 3.1 etc.
