Hey guys this is my first post here, and I'd like some advice on a new rig I want to build at the end of the summer.

Use: I'll be using this rig for gaming, but also 3D design work and rendering. I use Solidworks, Photoview (rendering software built in to solidworks, CPU based) and Blender (render program which can utilise CUDA).

Budget: My budget is anywhere between $1500 - $2000 CAD (including tax, 13% here in Canada) but I'm a highschool student so obviously I want to save as much as possible. However I also would also like a high performance rig.

Monitors: I will be purchasing 1 1920x1080 monitor with the build, but would like to be able to plug in some old low res monitors as companion displays, only used for internet or email while doing real work/gaming on the 1080 monitor.

I also need to get a keyboard, I want a mechanical with a backlight, but I already have a mouse so no worries about that.

WiFi combatability is important to me, so I would like a WiFi capable motherboard or a WiFi PCI-E card.

I am purchasing windows 7 with the build, so that's included with the price.

So here is my build as I speced it, but I would like some advice on what you guys think I could improve or cut costs with, as it is currently around $2100 CAD. I like the Sabertooth but I also looked at the Maximus VI Hero. The Maximus VI Formula also looked good but a)is not out yet so can't be sure and b ) looks like it will be expensive due to it's watercooling combatibility which I will probably not utilise.

Here is my build that I speced before Haswell and Z87, is it worth going to my new build above? There's no cost difference so I see no reason why not to.

Thanks!

My suggestion would be to spend a bit more on the monitor and also why dont you just get a usb wi-fi card instead of the pci-e one.

Thanks!

This would be my first choice for you

Yes it is a little over your budget, but you are getting a powerful 6 core system and you MIGHT not need to get a wifi card if they are still packing them with the boards.

The 3930k  is a 6 core CPU making it better when it comes to CPU rendering especially if the program works better with more threads.

With this one if you want to add a second GPU you will need a new PSU because it is using almost 500W as it is on a 550W PSU (80+ gold)

My second option is

http://ca.pcpartpicker.com/p/13zuV

This one has a future SLI support and larger drives.

They both have 770's because they have are strong, budget, cards for CUDA.

If you want a mechanical keyboard with a backlight look at Ducky's. They have the most options in terms of colors and switches.

If you go with one of the ROG boards instead you will get one of the WiFi GO! modules.

Except for the Hero board, that has no wifi go

@andypanda Will you be overclocking your CPU as well as going for an SLI setup in the future?

Yes I am planning to overclock my CPU, and I would be ready to SLI in the future but I'm not sure when I would get the money to upgrade, so I would prefer one strong card.

Which system of the 2 I posted earlier do you feel is a better for you.

I feel like the Z87 one is better, as even though I am doing 3D design it is not intensive enough to demand a 6 core processor, and my budget is not that high. I might scale back the drive size a little so that I can save some money, as I don't need that much space. I like the addition of the 770, I think that's a good idea. Any other suggestions on cutting cost? I would like to trim it down as much as possible.

Thanks

If not then http://ca.pcpartpicker.com/p/13CsU is your cheapest option without skimping to much anywhere.

No I'm not really planning to SLI, so that looks pretty good. I might go for a 128Gb SSD though, to save a little money.

I won't be building this until the end of august probably (gotta save up the money) so by then the 760 Ti will be out, what do you think of switching to that to save some money (I know there aren't really benchmarks yet but what are your thoughts)?

On a not performance subject, what do you think of the black Sabertooth board inside the black C70? Do you think the green C70 would look better with the Sabertooth?

I like a build with a black mobo in a black case, shows off the components little more both on the board as well as the coolers and GPU's.

The 760 will be a good card but if you want more CUDA cores then the 770 is better, because your rendering program supports it.  It also wont perform as well in games being that it a lower end card.

Ok well I'm waiting anyways as I don't have the money right now, so I'll check out the benchmarks when it's released and see how far behind it falls.

Ya I think it will look good.

Thanks for all your help!

Hey I was just looking over the build and was wondering if I should get any extra fans with it?

You should be fine with what the case comes with, If there are fans in the top you, you can always just move them when you install the H100i and put them where you need to (maybe on the window next to your GPU).

The case comes with 2 fans in the front and 1 rear exhaust, plus the 2 H100i fans in the top.
