Since the 13 inch MacBook Pro Retina is so dayum expensive what would be a good alternative? Build quality should be similar and so should screen quality (but it doesn't have to match the 2560x1600 resolution). Budget is around $1000 USD.

 

edit: I can always go higher than the budget if the laptop is actually good.

An Asus zenbook or an Dell xps?

Also the inspiron 7000 series are similar to macbooks but cheaper.

Linus did reviews on the Microsoft surface 3 and Lenovo Y50 those would be good alternatives...

13" MacBook Pro Retina starts at $1300 and is actually good (at least if you're not going to be playing too many games on it). Definitely worth the price, and I doubt you will find a comparable offering for that kind of money. Build quality, screen and battery life is absolutely top of the line and the hardware underneath is enough to give you a good experience.

Is the asus g750jk under 1000$ or is it in that range?

Anything asus rog will have performance and be able to play games well.

Other than that, check local stores for deals and such.

Razer blade has the same awesome aluminum body but it's kinda pricey as well.

Can't you settle for an older model MB Pro? My mom got a 2011 MB Air showroom model with an SSD for about €400 from a local store.

I suppose that could work

I'm not really looking for performance, I am looking for mobility and battery life.
