Hello. I'm buying a new power supply in week or so and I found this Corsair VS650M power supply. Since I don't have any experience of PSU's (mostly other stuff) I would like to ask if is is any good? That power supply is around $100 where I live (sweden) and is a great choice since I love Corsair products. If you have any experience with is please tell me? Or maybe recommend another PSU. Thanks*!

Any PSU that has an 80+ rating and is manufactured by a reputable company is good in my book. However, it does help if it is fully or semi modular.

Corsair is good. But if you see other solid branded psu on sale consider that one.

My friend actually had that Cooler Master powersupply and it crashed after a week :P Don't know about grabbing one of them ^^

That's certainly not normal. Did you friend troubleshoot to find the root cause? Has he contacted any of our support teams or his vendor for a replacement, if it was the PSU?

It is Corsair's bottom-of-the-barrel power supply.

http://www.corsair.com/en/vs-seriestm-vs650-650-watt-power-supply

In fact, the VS seris is below the CX series. VS line up of products isn't even available in all regions.

I'd drop it down to a 500W / 550W with a better build quality.

Corsair don't make their own power supplies, they got a middle man that does that (I.e. CWT). Same goes for Cooler Master. In fact, very few brands do with only a FEW ezceptions (I.e. Seasonic is one).

Yep, don't know exactly what is was but something was wrong inside of it. I might be wrong but I think he got a replacement.

Simply, the Corsair VS Series is a budget series. I would prefer the CX Series over it.

^ I wouldn't bother with Corsair VS unless you don't have any alternatives.

I'm thinking about the cx600m to be honest.

What are you powering?

i've been recommended the XFX Xtr 550 on here, it's the same as the seasonic g series which is a stellar psu plus the xfx is fully modular and a fan that kicks in only when the psu is under load (gaming). i higly recommend this unit its very quiet and good quality fan 80+ gold at a very competitive price.

wathever you do avoid EVGA supernova B1 or G1...the G2 made bu superflower i heard are top notch psu's...but i owned the 750w B1 for a week and it was the loudest thing ever and the thing coil whine like crazy i had to send it back...and the i ordered the XFX!

Amd fx 8350, 8 gb corsair ram, asus m5a97 r2.0, 1 ssd 1 hdd, soon 1 more hdd, gtx 660 (soon gtx 780 or 970)

A decent 550w would be more than enough for any single gpu config. Can you link us to where you're shopping?

Coil whine can happen to any psu. I've used several B1's and have one to my right--they're not loud at all. There's nothing wrong with the B1 series and they are often offer great value.

ok...but i'm telling you : you should experience how much more quiet the XTR fan is you wouldnt believe the difference it's day and night...AND the xtr fan is OFF most of the time which is awesome and the psu cost me like 10$ more it's rediculous.

I'm swedish so I use a site that combines all possible retailers to find the best price. And I also is thinking of overclocking my processor, so I don't know if the 550 wat is enough. I'm not new to building computers but when it comes to watts and stuff, I'm a newbie.

I've worked with a few XTR's. The difference is not night and day. It seems like you were just unlucky with your 750B1.

Can you post a link to the site? 550w is more than enough including oc'ing.

Corsair...uhm, only HX(i) AX(i) and some RM you should look for.

CM V series, Antec, Seasonic all solid PSUs and cheaper.

I'm a bit of a Corsair fanboy that would likely pick a Corsair product before any else, but I will take a look at it ;) Thanks

this is MUCH better than anything corsair has to offer in this price range...hands down...sorry.
