I just picked a new pc for my grandfather, installed his old hard drive and on boot when I get to the win xp loading part (don't complain about xp unless that's the actual problem ) it Bsods.

Specs are:

cpu: Intel core i3 4350

Mobo: Asus H81M-K

Memory: 4GB G. skill Aegis 1600MHz

I'm assuming that the fact that it's loaded with Xp is the problem, probably going to upgrade his os to 7 if necessary, but for backup purposes is there a link to an Ubuntu installation on a flash drive? I'm on my phone and it'll take a while to look for it. Thanks!

Make a picture of the BSOD and upload it here so we can see the error code with its parameters. That will allow us to determine the cause of the BSOD

This is why you should not get an FX CPU for ANY scenario other than rendering on a budget http://linustechtips.com/main/topic/286142-fx-8350-r9-290-psu-requirements/?p=3892901 http://linustechtips.com/main/topic/266481-an-issue-with-people-bashing-the-fx-cpus/?p=3620861

The issue is you have taken an installation performed on different hardware, you are then taking it out of that system and trying to get it to work in another system altogether. This wont ever work as the installation is using another HAL than what is required. The only way to fix this is to do a re install with the new system. I might also suggest you move away from XP as its "end of life" and is really insecure to be running.

OP is using the same install on another system, wont work :P (hence BSOD)

Oh hurr, completely forgot about that.

@FireCharge

Yeah you will need to reinstall. The OS is "calibrated" on the previous motherboard now and will not work on a completely new system
