Thermalright Macho zero: Doing fanless correctly....finally

814256001021_420x420.jpg

Here is the problem with most fanless coolers, they try to look fancy and add all these stupid crazy features which dont do anything and then add some premium pricetag to the heatsink. Anyways thermalright have done it *sigh* right.

What im referring to is the ease to take a fan off or put a fan on this cooler, as you can see its pretty traditional in the design side of things and they they offer you all of the tools you would need to attach a fan or two if they are needed.

Sadly tpu is playing up so i cant add anymore pictures so there will seem to be a lot of text in this thread, sorry about that. nvm got it to work

814256001021-2.jpg

So the cooler has 6 6mm heatpipes which is nice

As you know heatsinks dont make much noise, well no noise so this is silent so yay i guess.

There are ridges and all sorts of stuff thats made to direct the heat to more parts of the heat sink and away from the middle of the heatsink which is the dead zone as there is no fan blade in the middle of a fan it will not blow air there.

814256001021-9.jpg

You get life warrenty because its uncommon for a heatsink to break(it has happened before and it will happen again).

Best of all you get GLOVES, YES FREE GLOVES. Best selling point there, dont see noctua doing that as of yet.

DImensions: 140 x 102 x 162mm

Prices

Well i dont know, neither to my sources, a few of them said they estimate it to be around £60 while one said £90, not very sure about that, we shall see i guess.

wtf is that weird flexible fan bracket thing? Is that how they're going "passive" by using your exhaust fan as the "active" fan that isn't included with the cooler?

*like, does it extend and move around to make a tube that connects fan to heatsink?

Home is where the heart my desktop is.

So, that flexible black thing attaches to the rear exhaust fan? There might be some compromise with mobo cooling if you use that... Then again, if you're going passive, you're not making your motherboard components go real hot...

Yeah in a nutshell, it looks pretty funky but when you dont use a fan you either loose performance or appearance.

Ok make sure you dont hit that thermal throttling threshold.

I will eat a shoe if that thing can handle the heat from a CPU that is able to run Star Citizen.

I bet it can handle my Q6600's 100w tdp,

those have no fins though. im sceptic about it as well, but ill wait till its put through its paces by someone ;) but i will remember to remind you to eat your shoe, since SC already runs decently on an ooold i5. so it should do fine on a new i3. and those are cool chips :P

How to win at fanless coolers:

-Don't make it look like ass.

-Fins need to be spaced out properly but need to be sturdy enough

-You need a butt ton of heat transfer to the fins

-Nobody will pay a ton of money, they are used on mid tier CPUs mostly

-Give the option of using a fan (maybe the user changes to a hotter CPU or reaches uncomfortable temps at summer).

-Don't make it giant, not everybody has a 900D or test bench as case.

-Don't make it stupidly heavy, the motherboard it's holding that thing! remember?

-Simple accessories, vibration reducers, nice backplate, etc.

I know it looks like a lot of stuff is needed, but hey! This is a difficult market, specially with the Thermalright Macho Zero around! :DDD
