To be more specific, how long can we expect for 8 gigs of ram to suffice for gaming on high or maxed settings with maybe a few tabs on chrome and a non intensive program running in the background.

Ram is very cheap so even if you will have to upgrade is not such a big deal. For now is enough for all games

8GB of ram is fine still but its still a good idea to add more, as games like GTA V are rumored to need more than 8GB ram

Sounds like bull to me. I don't think I have ever heard of a game that required more than 6gb. I mean hell look what they did with the 360 version. 512Mb can do that when used right.

Well, considering what I do with video editing and other related stuff, I'm pretty much thinking that 8GB won't be enough when I do my build ASAP. So, I think that 8GB of RAM is quickly becoming not enough for people like myself. But people who don't do as demanding of tasks I think would be pretty alright with 8GB. But I guess this is debatable and everyone has a different opinion on the subject.

Your are right there, but hes is not rendering so no need for lots of ram, hes only playing games are currently 8GB should do it easily.

As other people are saying, it will be a while until that happens. 8GB is enough to do all that, but will eventually require more. That's why everyone should always plan on possible future upgrades.

Na just saying what might happen. I wont upgrade my RAM until I need too haha.

8Gb does me for now so until it crashes or out of memory happens I'll stick with 8GB.

Also probably wont happen but if its a port it could use loads of ram for no reason, or it could use more ram because of how complex the game is compared to past versions.

I have run 16GB for the past year (DDR3, now moving on to DDR4 16GB). I just like to have a little more RAM than necessary and it does help to make me feel good that i can run anything without worrying about my RAM. 8GB is already being used up pretty quickly and many of my friends have to worry that they aren't using too much.

8GB is still sufficient, but to be safe I'd suggest you go with 16GB. All in all, RAM isn't expensive part comparing to other parts.

I think that 8GB is getting to be a bit low, but is still "sufficient" for games.

Personally I find that it's not enough to run several of the programs I use on a daily basis at school, and getting 16GB really wasn't that much more money.
