Created a Steam Account & Having Problems

Go to solution Solved by Guest Kloaked,

Sometimes emails are slow. But before you buy anything, wait 24 hours for the email so you an be sure the account is linked to the email address you supposedly typed in.

You can also change your visible username by going into your Steam settings - should be the first thing you see in that window. What you type in to log in is simply an unchangeable (to my knowledge) log-in username.

Hi guys,

I recently created a steam account and I seem to be having problems. My first problem is that I created my username as Geekazoid7, because Geekazoid was already taken, and it ended up changing the capital "G" to a lowercase "G". Don't know why that is. I've seen members on here that can have capitals on their Steam username and that's how I wanted it. Secondly, usually you get a verification email and I've gotten no such thing. I put in my email correctly but still no verification. I've checked my email several times.

I would really appreciate some help as I am new to Steam and this is getting a tad frustrating.

Thanks in advance for your help.

Steam username is not the display name. You can change your actual name to Geekazoid (with capitals or whatever unicode you desire) by going to Steam > Settings > Friends, and changing your name there.

Not sure about the verification email. Obligatory spam check reminder.

Oh! Thank you so much. That's good to know about my username. And, yeah, I'll wait 24 hours. Thanks mate. :)

The lower case 'g' is just the user name that you will use to log in with, but you can change the username that is used in game/with friends/etc.. Just go to your profile and click "Edit Profile" and enter the desired name into the "Profile Name" field.

Its lower case just like how emails are.

This is why I love this LTT forum. As a member since the 5th of April 2013 I have quite enjoyed this forum and you guys have reminded why I love it. You get help pretty quickly and most of the time it's quite helpful. I'm not sure, even when the verification comes through, that I'll be purchasing any games any time soon, though, for various reasons.

I'm happy to report that my Steam account is activated. It just seemed to take Valve sometime to process my account. I'm quite happy now. Also, thanks to help from everyone explaining how to change my display name. I've fixed that up also and I'm all good now.

I really wanna thank you guys, though, for all your help. For a newbie of Steam I'm grateful that you were all patient with me and just explained things in a very easy to understand way. I sound like a flamin' broken record, but thank you guys. Tis greatly appreciated! :)
