About a year ago i bought and built my first gaming pc. With a sli upgrade in mind i got the gtx 770 and a 750w psu. I am now planing to upgrade my rig however im not sure if i should get another gtx 770 and sli or get a gtx 970. At about the same price (just over 400 at my local hardware store) im torn between the two as im not sure what will be the better choose. Keep in mind im looking for better performance of the two. That said i am leaning towards another gtx 770 as i would then have 4gb rather than 2 with the 970.

(I do realize that the 970 would out perform a single 770 however i already have a 770 im not sure if it would outperform 2 770s. Because I already have a 770 im torn between the two cards as they are about the same price)

I also have 770 and I had plan to get another one but at this point I dont think it is worth it. If you have 2GB version of 770 and you get another you wont have 4GB of VRAM but still only 2GB because they will only share their memmory. I think that 770 is good enough for 1080p and I am waiting for next year to see what AMD brings with 300 series and then decide betwen 390x / 980.

If you play on 1080p then 970 will be very good choice. Not all games support SLI.

Well, when you start doing SLI you're getting into a whole other thing, and you you will only benefit if the games you're going to play actually support SLI, if they don't then tough luck, that other 770 will just sit tight and collect dust (micro stutter is another thing to beware of). So I say get the 970, it's less hassle. Also VRAM don't add up when you add another card.

If you you want to upgrade, i would rather wait for the nVidia Pascal microarchitecture or at least the bigger Maxwell chip.
