Help me build my new rig!

sovski

Hello fellas,

I would like to build a new workstation, for multimedia, gaming, etc... pretty much a solid strong PC. However, I needed some help on the parts. If I'm over supending, or you can direct me to a better build/product.

Here is what I have so far, I'm open to any reccomendation(s):

All prices were based from Amazon, so If you can find me a better price, go for it! I think I covered everything for the build. Maybe Linus can build it for me! or do an above average pc build guide! =D

CPU: Intel Core i7-5930K ($579.99)

Board: MSI X99S SLI PLUS ATX ($227.32) - I'm not really sure what board to go with here, just this one seemed solid [don't judge my thought process] ^_^

GPU: EVGA GeForce GTX 970 SSC ACX 2.0 4GB ($359.99) -I'm also open to something new here however would like a 4GB, 6 price point was too high.

Case: Corsair 750D, nothing special or fancy looking (sorry Iggy) but modern. ($149.99)

Mem: Corsair Vengeance Pro 16GB (2x8GB) DDR3 2133 MHz ($216.99)

SSD: Samsung Electronics 840 EVO - as long as this is about 25-256GB i'm happy ($128.909)

HHD: Western Digital 4TB, Black ($249.99)

PSU: Corsair Professional Series 860 (AX860i) ($199.99), didn't know if this would be enough wattage.

Total for the new PC: $2,207.53

Currently have: I bought this computer early april (2014) for about $2,000 from dell, i know :( but i didn't have time to build a computer i needed something powerful enough for work, gaming and streaming at the time.

I have one suggestion. You can move down to the 5820k since you only have one GPU and having more lanes is one distinguishes the 5820k and 5930k

Get DDR4 and downgrade to a 5820K

i7 4790k | ASUS Z97 Gryphon | 8GB Corsair XMS3 1333Mhz | Asus Direct CUII GTX 770 1267/3829 | Stock Cooler | Antec Neo Eco 520W | WD Green 1TB

Silverstone TJ08-e | Klipsch Promedia 2.1 | Razer Tiamat 2.2 | LG 24EN43VS | Razer Naga (2010) | Razer Lycosa (2010)

humm, i would say reuse that hdd, and ssd.

get a 5820k because with only 1 card there will be exactly 0 difference in performance( the 5930k may be binned slightly higher, for better overclocks, not worth 200$ though)

use that money you save on not buying a ssd and hdd, and decreasing that cpu and get a 980

also that psu is totally overkill

Personally I think the 4790 should already be good enough for most use cases, and if you upgrade to a GTX 980 and a better PSU first you should see a big boost in performance just from that without breaking the bank. If that's not enough then you can always change the motherboard, RAM and CPU later on.

I would just upgrade the PSU and the GPU.

Your current system is more than enough power for just about anything if you put something like a 970 or a 780 in there.

I forgot to mention i wanted to add in something like the H100i to cool the unit, after a new modifications from your guys' suggestions the price came out to about the same, ~$2,265. I'll play around with some configurations and let the community know where i end up.

I should have just said for $2000-2500 what would you guys build. that would have been better, haha.

Thank you!
