Potential problems with my "future" gtx 970

Go to solution Solved by Enderman,

Just because it has 2x8 pin power connectors does not mean it will use anywhere near 300W.

It CAN reach 300W though if you overclock it, which is when the 2x8pin power comes in useful.

I'll now really looking at the Zotac GTX 970 Omega for a possible future upgrade for my gaming and rendering - CUDA

My PSU has only 400w of 12v power and yes i know that the card only uses 145w

but the PSU have only 1X6 pin(75w) and 1X6+2Pin (150w).

the big problem arises when considering the Zotac GTX 970 Omega have 2X8 pin(2X150w)

which would give me a total 300w (75w+75w+150w) vs 145w of what reference is.

note:PCIE 16X lanes by outputs 75w

my setup:

Intel i5 2320 @3.0GHz ~95w

500gb WD blue

240gb samsung 840 evo

2X4GB Ram

3X120mm fan

1X140mm fan

cooling: H100i (240mm)

For those asking why the hell did i get h100i for that cpu : i just felt like it :)

My questions are:

1) Can i actually get away with plugging in only 1X6pin and 1X6+2 pin connectors?

2) Is there a possibility of instability due to not plugging the correct connectors?

3) assuming the 300w (75w+75w+150w) works will i reach the power limit if i were to overclock( no voltage tweak to minimal teaks)

5) where is number 4?

Thanks everyone taking their time reading my post.

What PSU have you got? By the connectors you have, it is probably a no name brand and you should get rid of it. Don't skimp on a cheap PSU. You will regret it.
